Innovate! Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its geospatial solutions team as a GIS Developer I. This is an entry-level technical position responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and operation of geographic information systems under the direction of senior GIS staff. This role is designed for candidates who have a foundational understanding of GIS principles and basic programming skills, and who are ready to apply that knowledge in a professional environment for the first time.

*non-contingent position expected Fall 2026*

Location: Candidates will work remotely.

Salary Range: $75,000-$95,000

Position status: Full Time; with benefits

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support development and maintenance of web-based GIS applications and internal geospatial tools.
Configure and update maps, layers, web maps, and related application content in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
Assist with Python-based automation for data loading, transformation, QA, and geoprocessing.
Prepare, clean, validate, and document vector, raster, and tabular datasets.
Troubleshoot defects in map services, application features, and data ETL workflows.
Produce metadata, release notes, user guides, and sprint documentation.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with GIS analysts, developers, designers, and project managers.
Contribute to technical documentation, how-to guides, and user support materials.
Support addressing end-user issues with web GIS tools and associated feature/map/geoprocessing services.
Support application testing, accessibility checks, and browser/device verification.
Ability to learn quickly, work independently on defined tasks, and operate well in team settings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
1-2 years of relevant GIS or software development experience.
Foundational JavaScript or TypeScript and HTML/CSS skills.
Python scripting ability.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.
Familiarity with Git and common software development practices.
Exposure to ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.
Exposure to SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
Exposure to Experience Builder, StoryMaps, Survey123, Field Maps, or geoprocessing services.
