SEO & AI Search Manager | cbdMD
cbdMD is seeking an experienced SEO & AI Search Manager to lead organic search, technical SEO, content optimization, and AI answer visibility across our growing portfolio of wellness brands, including cbdMD, Paw CBD, Herbal Oasis, Bluebird Botanicals, and other brands on our expanding consumer wellness platform.
This is not a traditional SEO-only role. Search is changing quickly. Customers are no longer discovering brands only through Google rankings. They are asking questions on Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Reddit, YouTube, and other answer-driven platforms.
We need someone who understands both classic SEO fundamentals and the new world of AI search visibility, answer engine optimization, entity authority, structured content, brand citations, and zero-click discovery.
The right candidate will help ensure our brands are discoverable, trusted, cited, and accurately represented across both traditional search engines and AI-generated responses.
About the Role
The SEO & AI Search Manager will be responsible for improving organic visibility, search performance, content architecture, technical SEO, and AI answer presence across multiple cbdMD portfolio brands.
This person will manage SEO strategy, keyword research, technical audits, content optimization, AI search monitoring, competitor research, and reporting. They will also help guide how our brands appear when consumers ask AI tools questions about CBD, hemp, THC beverages, functional wellness, pet CBD, sleep, stress support, recovery, topicals, supplements, and related wellness categories.
We currently use Profound for AI search and answer engine research, so experience with Profound or similar AI visibility platforms is a strong plus.
This role requires someone who can think strategically, execute tactically, analyze data, work across multiple brands, and stay ahead of evolving search behavior.
Key Responsibilities
● Own SEO strategy and execution across cbdMD portfolio brands, including cbdMD, Paw CBD, Herbal Oasis, Bluebird Botanicals, and future brands.
● Improve organic visibility, rankings, traffic, product discovery, and revenue across brand websites.
● Lead AI search visibility initiatives across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Copilot, and other emerging answer engines.
● Use tools such as Profound to monitor how our brands, competitors, products, and categories appear in AI-generated answers.
● Identify where cbdMD brands are being cited, where competitors are being cited, and where content gaps are limiting visibility.
● Develop strategies to improve brand presence in AI responses through stronger content, clearer entity signals, better structured pages, credible citations, third-party validation, and improved topical authority.
● Conduct keyword research across branded, non-branded, product, category, problem-aware, comparison, educational, and purchase-intent search terms.
● Build SEO roadmaps across multiple brands, product lines, categories, and customer intent stages.
● Optimize product pages, category pages, collection pages, blog content, landing pages, educational content, FAQs, and comparison pages.
● Partner with content, creative, ecommerce, compliance, PR, and leadership teams to create search-driven content that is accurate, compliant, helpful, and conversion-focused.
● Help build content strategies around high-value topics such as CBD gummies, sleep gummies, pet CBD, CBD oil, THC drinks, THC mixers, recovery topicals, functional wellness, hemp-derived products, and supplement-adjacent categories.
● Conduct technical SEO audits and work with development teams to improve crawlability, indexation, page speed, site architecture, internal linking, redirects, canonicalization, structured data, schema markup, and mobile performance.
● Improve internal linking strategy across brand websites to strengthen topical authority and product discovery.
● Create and maintain SEO briefs for new content, product pages, category pages, blog posts, and educational resources.
● Analyze competitor SEO and AI search visibility across direct CBD, hemp, wellness, pet, beverage, and supplement competitors.
● Monitor Google Search Console, GA4, Shopify analytics, Profound, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar SEO tools.
● Track and report on organic traffic, keyword rankings, AI answer visibility, citations, branded search, non-branded search, technical health, content performance, conversions, and revenue impact.
● Support PR and brand authority efforts by identifying content and citation opportunities that can improve search trust and AI answer inclusion.
● Ensure SEO and AI response strategies align with compliance standards for CBD, hemp, THC, pet wellness, supplements, and regulated consumer wellness categories.
● Stay current on Google algorithm updates, AI Overviews, answer engine optimization, generative engine optimization, structured data, and evolving search behavior.
What We’re Looking For
● 3+ years of hands-on SEO experience, preferably in ecommerce, DTC, CPG, wellness, supplements, CBD, hemp, pet, beauty, health, or regulated consumer products.
● Strong understanding of traditional SEO, including keyword research, technical SEO, content optimization, internal linking, site architecture, metadata, structured data, and organic performance reporting.
● Experience optimizing ecommerce websites, especially Shopify or similar platforms.
● Experience with SEO tools such as Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Moz, Surfer, Clearscope, MarketMuse, or similar platforms.
● Strong understanding of how AI search, answer engines, and zero-click search are changing organic discovery.
● Experience with Profound is a major plus.
● Experience with AI visibility tools, answer engine optimization, generative engine optimization, brand monitoring, or citation tracking is a strong plus.
● Ability to analyze how brands appear in AI-generated answers and turn those insights into actionable content, technical, PR, and authority-building recommendations.
● Strong understanding of content strategy, search intent, topical authority, entity optimization, and customer journey mapping.
● Ability to write or edit SEO content briefs that are useful for writers, designers, ecommerce teams, and compliance reviewers.
● Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into clear priorities and measurable actions.
● Experience working cross-functionally with content, ecommerce, web development, creative, paid media, compliance, and leadership teams.
● Comfort managing SEO across multiple brands, websites, product categories, and priorities.
● Strong attention to detail and ability to balance speed, accuracy, compliance, and performance.
Bonus Points For
● Experience in CBD, hemp, cannabis-adjacent, supplements, wellness, pet products, beverages, or other regulated consumer categories.
● Experience improving visibility in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, or similar AI answer engines.
● Experience using Profound, Otterly, Peec AI, Scrunch AI, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Semrush AI tools, or similar AI search visibility platforms.
● Experience building SEO strategies for multi-brand portfolios.
● Experience with Shopify SEO.
● Experience with schema markup, FAQ schema, product schema, review schema, article schema, organization schema, and structured data implementation.
● Experience creating content strategies that support both ecommerce conversion and educational authority.
● Experience working with PR teams to improve brand authority, third-party mentions, backlinks, and citation signals.
● Experience with regulated claims, compliance-sensitive copy, or legal review workflows.
