Anesthesia Coding Specialist

Pay: $25.00 – $31.00 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time | 1099 Independent Contractor or W-2 Employee
Work Location: Remote (U.S.)

Advance Your Coding Career in Anesthesia

Are you an experienced medical coder with a passion for accuracy and compliance? Join our team, where your expertise in anesthesia coding will directly support healthcare providers and ensure timely, compliant reimbursement.

In this role, you'll work with acute care hospital documentation, collaborate with physicians, and apply your knowledge of anesthesia coding guidelines while enjoying the flexibility of either a 1099 or W-2 opportunity.

What You'll Do

As our Anesthesia Coding Specialist, you will:

Review anesthesia medical records and accurately assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and ASA codes.
Apply anesthesia-specific coding guidelines, including time-based billing, physical status modifiers, and anesthesia modifiers such as QS, QX, QY, QK, AA, AD, and QZ.
Ensure coding complies with CMS regulations, NCCI edits, payer-specific guidelines, and documentation requirements.
Collaborate with anesthesiologists, CRNAs, physicians, and clinical staff to resolve documentation questions and coding discrepancies.
Monitor coding quality and productivity while maintaining high accuracy standards.
Support denial management by researching coding issues and assisting with appeals and payer audits.
Stay current with regulatory changes, coding updates, and industry best practices through ongoing education.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of post-certification professional medical coding experience
Strong experience coding physician professional services (ProFee)
Proficiency with:
CPT
ICD-10-CM
HCPCS
Medical coding modifiers
CMS coding guidelines
Resume that clearly demonstrates relevant coding experience
Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to work independently while meeting productivity and quality standards

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of dedicated anesthesia coding experience
Certification such as:
CPC
COC
CCS-P
5+ years of experience with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding
Thorough understanding of:
ASA Crosswalk
Base units and time units
Medical direction and concurrency rules
Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines
Experience coding for:
Acute Care Hospitals
Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC)
Experience using EMR and coding platforms (Meditech, Epic, etc.)
