Job title: Strategic Digital Missionary
Current holder: N/A
Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer
Location: Remote*
FLSA Status Exempt
EEOC Classification: 2.0
The Catholic Church of Philadelphia and its entities are Roman Catholic religious organizations, and all
employees are expected to respect and conduct themselves in accordance with the values, teachings, and
morals of the Roman Catholic Church.
Job purpose and opportunity
The Catholic Church of Philadelphia is embarking on a bold, 20-year journey of renewal through the Trust and Hope
initiative. At the heart of this transformation lies an urgent reality: 83% of baptized Catholics are not regularly
participating in the life of the Church. Central to this multi-faceted renewal strategy are the establishment of
Missionary Hubs across the Archdiocese, designed to reach those who have drifted away and invite them into
transformative relationships with Jesus Christ through bold witness, authentic encounter, and digital evangelization
that meets people where they live, work, and scroll.
We're looking for a storyteller and digital creative who can bring the work of the Missionary Hubs to life — reaching
Catholics who've stepped away from the faith and walking alongside those ready to go deeper into missionary
discipleship, rooted in the Eucharist.
Duties and responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Lead digital strategy for the Missionary Hubs, turning real stories from the field into content that reaches
and moves people online.
- Build and run a content approach that grows awareness and draws people deeper — across parishes,
communities, and digital platforms throughout the Church of Philadelphia.
- Bring regular insights and recommendations to the Strategy Office and Office of Communications, keeping
digital ministry connected to the broader Trust and Hope mission.
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Lead high-impact digital campaigns on TikTok, Instagram and other relevant platforms to inspire
engagement and foster conversion.
- Develop strategic, sustainable content plans that introduce the Church of Philadelphia to the Missionary
Hubs while also maintaining successful personal accounts.
- Produce multimedia content that speaks to the Trust and Hope initiative and vision, while sparking curiosity
and engagement from both those coming and not coming to the Church, especially those under 30 years
old.
- Act as the “face” of the “Catholic. Every Day.” campaign through real-time online storytelling about the
Hubs.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Collaborate with other members of the Strategy Office on shared initiatives and priorities
- Foster a culture of creativity, excellence, and apostolic zeal
Partnership & Analytics
- Identify, recruit and train potential counterparts to multiply the digital footprint of the Trust and Hope
Initiative and expand digital ministry efforts across the Archdiocese
- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure engagement and conversion across all digital platforms
- Report and analyze insights and provide recommendations to leadership
Qualifications
Core Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Design, or Theology · Ministry/nonprofit experience in
content creation and social media
- Strong Catholic faith knowledge with multimedia production skills (design, video, photography) and proven
ability to create engaging content across digital platforms (audience reach, engagement, conversion
success)
- Strategic, self-motivated communicator who thrives independently and collaboratively in evolving roles
Character and Mindset
- Apostolic heart: You understand we are living in apostolic times requiring missionary strategies, not
maintenance strategies.
- Creative vision: You imagine new ways to tell ancient truths and translate the Church's mission for
contemporary culture.
- Detail-oriented, resilient, humble: You care about excellence in every pixel and word, navigate ambiguity
with grace, and serve with joy.
- Builder's mentality: You thrive in environments where the roadmap is still being written. You're energized
by roles that evolve as the mission matures, and you can toggle seamlessly between big-picture vision and
the day-to-day details that bring it to life.
Working conditions
- Location: the “home base" is the Strategy office, although regular travel to and from the various hub locations is
required.
Schedule: The schedule is flexible for filming, events, hub visits, and occasional evening or weekend commitments,
as the mission requires.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary commensurate with experience.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
- Opportunities for professional development. * Inclusive of compensation for personal account posts.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to
finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The
employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 lbs.
Direct reports
This position sits within the Strategy Office and reports to the Chief Strategy Officer. Day-to-day collaboration and
operational guidance will be provided by the Chief of Staff of the Strategy Office. You will also work closely with
Director of Mission Initiatives, Hub Missionaries, parish leaders, and Archdiocesan communications staff.
