Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic finance team. This role is vital in maintaining accurate financial records, managing payroll processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and passionate about delivering precise financial data that supports our organization’s mission and growth. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a collaborative team dedicated to excellence in financial management.

Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries using various accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, and other financial systems.
Process payroll accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely payments while adhering to all relevant tax laws and regulations.
Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and balance sheets regularly to maintain data integrity.
Prepare detailed financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for internal review and external reporting purposes.
Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other applicable accounting standards across all financial activities.
Perform account analysis, journal entries, and double-entry bookkeeping to support accurate financial recordkeeping.
Conduct monthly account reconciliations such as bank reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation to verify accuracy.
Assist with budgeting processes and provide insights into financial concepts relevant to nonprofit or governmental accounting when applicable.
Support tax preparation activities by maintaining organized records of transactions and assisting with tax filings as needed.
Maintain thorough documentation of all financial transactions and ensure data security within the organization’s accounting systems.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or Payroll Specialist with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks (including QuickBooks Online), Xero, Sage, and other financial management tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processing procedures, tax regulations, and government reporting requirements.
Familiarity with corporate accounting standards, nonprofit accounting practices, governmental accounting, GAAP compliance, and financial report writing.
Strong skills in spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets), account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, journal entries, account analysis, and 10-key typing accuracy.
Ability to perform balance sheet reconciliation accurately while managing accounts payable and receivable workflows efficiently.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of technical accounting concepts such as debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, and account analysis is essential.
Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and preparing clear financial reports.
A background in public accounting or experience working within nonprofit or governmental sectors is a plus but not required.
