BlackDoctor is the nation’s leading digital health platform for Black consumers, reaching millions each month with trusted, culturally relevant health information. Our mission is to educate, empower, and uplift the Black community through accurate medical content, expert insights, and real stories that inspire healthier living.

In 2026, we are expanding our contributor network and seeking talented freelance writers and editors to help us deliver groundbreaking, impactful storytelling across a wide range of topics.

Position Overview

BlackDoctor.org is seeking experienced freelance writers and editors to produce high-quality, engaging, and culturally-informed content. Ideal candidates have a background in journalism, health communication, science writing, or SEO-driven digital storytelling.

Writers may contribute to consumer health articles, lifestyle content, physician-to-physician materials, clinical trial education, personal patient narratives, and more.

***MUST BE BASED IN THE UNITED STATES***

Key Responsibilities

Write clear, accurate, culturally relevant content on assigned health and lifestyle topics
Translate complex medical and scientific information into accessible, engaging language
Pitch timely and evergreen story ideas aligned with BDO’s editorial goals
Conduct interviews with medical experts, patients, and subject-matter specialists when needed
Incorporate SEO best practices into all content
Meet deadlines and revise content based on editorial feedback
Collaborate with editors to ensure accuracy and alignment with BDO’s voice and standards

Content Areas May Include

Health conditions & chronic disease
Lifestyle & wellness (fitness, nutrition, mental health, relationships, finances, culture)
Physician-to-physician medical content (professional audience)
Clinical trials, breakthroughs, and health equity
Personal patient stories and real-life experiences
General health news and emerging medical trends

Qualifications

Proven writing or editing experience (3–5 published clips required)
Background in health, science, lifestyle, or medical writing preferred
Experience writing for Black audiences or multicultural platforms is a plus
Strong research, interviewing, and fact-checking skills
Ability to write with empathy, accuracy, and cultural nuance
Working knowledge of SEO
Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines
