The candidate will be part of our Space Launch Vehicle Program (SLV) team. The candidate will be directly working on our next-gen liquid rocket engine, that will be used in our reusable space launch vehicle!

We are growing our portfolio to include: NASA, the U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Navy, Intelligence and other Federal Government agencies throughout the United States. We also service private sector corporations.

Propulsion Engineer, Design & Integration.

Position Summary

Lesath International (LI) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Propulsion Engineer, Rocket Engine Design & Integration. If you join us in this position, you will be a technical leader in design, development, test, and flight of pump-fed liquid rocket engines, components, sub-assemblies, and systems for the Lesath launch vehicle program (LVP). This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. The ideal candidate would be a generalist with both component and systems level experience with liquid rocket engines, fluid handling, vehicle stages and systems, operations, sensors and instrumentation.

This position works remotely and is HQ in beautiful Buffalo, NY. (We are currently remote and will be switching to hybrid eventually.)

Your Mission

Support operations, maintenance, development, and design of pump-fed liquid rocket engines
Plan and execute rocket engine design, development and acceptance tests including operation on console as Responsible Engineer (RE) of test article
Create and manage test and development plans for engines and propulsion components
Analyze and interpret engine test and flight data, and recommend corrective actions or operational upgrades based on this data
Manage test data, hardware configuration logs, and coordinate development activities with other departments
Drive engine power balance to anchor test data and forward predict test setups
Create and maintain plumbing and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
Assist in the development of manufacturing and integration and test processes and procedures, including hardware and software acceptance test procedures
Disposition quality escapes for production and development hardware, maintaining both design intent and overall program risk posture
Make development decisions based on technical merit, cost, and schedule metrics
Coordinate interdisciplinary projects that impact functional groups across the program
Communicate results verbally and through written reports
Help Lesath do our part "connecting humanity and space."
Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
Perform other duties as assigned

What You Bring

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have most of the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (engineering, physics, chemistry, or similar) plus a minimum of 2 years of related experience
Mastery of fluids and structural principles relevant to rocket engine hardware
Capability to solve complex problems with little to no supervision, on schedule, as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
Strong work ethic and ability to self-start
Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
Drive, high motivation, and commitment to improvement
Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
Ability to spend up to 50% time at our rocket engine test site in Buffalo, NY. (currently remote)
Ability to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum
Physical ability to handle items weighing up to 25 lbs (unassisted)
Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation.

Preferred Attributes

Candidates are especially competitive if they have any of the following:

Experience with liquid rocket engine development, design, test, and/or flight operations
Educational background in liquid rocket engines
Experience with pump fed liquid rocket engine analysis
Experience with instrumentation, data collection, and their impacts on performance calculations
Experience with typical liquid rocket propellant behavior, including cryogenic fluids
Familiarity with all or some of the following software packages: SolidWorks, MATLAB, TeamCenter, NX, ANSYS, ROCETS, GFSSP, SINDA/FLUINT, and NASA software's.
Knowledge of typical aerospace materials and hardware
Familiarity with industry standards and specifications from SMC, NASA, ASTM, AMS, etc.
Experience in low cost commercial space system ventures
Experience with air launched space launch vehicles or aircraft systems
Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’
