Data Scientist II
Fully REMOTE - working mostly East Coast/Central hours
Compensation up to $180,000 depending on location, experience and skills
We're seeking a Data Scientist to design, build, and deploy machine learning and AI solutions that transform complex healthcare and operational data into actionable insights. This role combines predictive modeling, natural language processing (NLP), generative AI, and MLOps to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions in a regulated environment.
Experience in healthcare and/or HIPAA compliance highly desired!
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deploy predictive models for risk prediction, engagement scoring, and outcome forecasting using XGBoost, LightGBM, regularized regression, and other machine learning techniques.
- Perform feature engineering, model tuning, calibration, threshold optimization, and class imbalance management to improve model performance.
- Build NLP solutions that extract insights from clinical and operational text using spaCy, scispaCy, MedSpaCy, Hugging Face Transformers.
- Develop AI-powered applications leveraging large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, embeddings, prompt engineering, and chatbot technologies.
- Support speech and audio AI initiatives involving Whisper, Azure Speech Services, speaker diarization, sentiment analysis, emotion detection, and keyword extraction.
- Implement model interpretability and explainability techniques using SHAP, LIME, and related approaches.
- Monitor models for drift, performance degradation, bias, and reliability while supporting governance and compliance requirements.
- Build and maintain scalable ML pipelines, automated testing frameworks, model versioning, and deployment processes using MLflow and modern MLOps practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and analytics teams on data architecture, feature stores, scoring pipelines, and production deployment strategies.
- Contribute to experimentation, model evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- 4+ years of experience developing and deploying machine learning solutions in production environments.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with NLP, generative AI, or LLM-based applications.
- Demonstrated experience taking models from experimentation through deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
- Experience working with healthcare, HIPAA, health technology, insurance, or other regulated data environments is preferred.
- Advanced Python skills, including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, and/or TensorFlow.
- Strong experience with machine learning algorithms, predictive modeling, classification, cross-validation, and performance evaluation.
- Hands-on expertise with XGBoost, LightGBM, SHAP, and model explainability frameworks.
- Experience with NLP tools including spaCy, scispaCy, MedSpaCy, Hugging Face Transformers, BERT, GPT, and LangChain.
- Familiarity with RAG architectures, vector search, embedding models, and vector databases.
- Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark, and MLflow.
- Knowledge of AWS services such as S3, SageMaker, and Bedrock.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with both relational and lakehouse data environments.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based machine learning deployment.
This role is ideal for a hands-on data scientist who enjoys applying cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies to solve complex real-world challenges and create measurable business impact.
