Full Job Description

The Opportunity

Sterling National Financial Group is hiring an experienced recruiter to identify and recruit established insurance agents and financial professionals to join Sterling to work with us in the 403(b) market.

A major part of Sterling’s business is helping educators understand and make better decisions about their retirement plans. Sterling Partners also work with retirees and individuals approaching retirement who need help with retirement-income planning, insurance, annuities and other financial strategies.

This is not a general HR or administrative recruiting position. It is a production-focused role requiring outbound prospecting, relationship building, persuasive communication and consistent follow-up.

The right person will know how to find experienced agents and financial professionals, earn their attention, understand what they want from a financial organization and clearly explain why Sterling may be a better platform for their business.

Sterling provides its Partners with extensive training, leads at no cost, 403(b) and educator-market opportunities, case-development assistance, retirement-planning resources, back-office support and experienced guidance to help move business from the initial client conversation through completion.

Primary Responsibilities

Proactively identify licensed insurance agents and financial professionals who may be a fit for Sterling.
Recruit professionals with experience or interest in the educator, 403(b), retirement-planning, life insurance and annuity markets.
Build targeted prospect lists using LinkedIn, insurance licensing databases, industry relationships, referrals and other sourcing methods.
Conduct consistent outbound outreach by phone, email, LinkedIn and other appropriate channels.
Hold initial conversations with prospective agents and explain Sterling’s business model, educator-market focus, 403(b) opportunities, resources and expectations.
Communicate how Sterling helps agents access prospects, develop retirement strategies and move cases through the planning and implementation process.
Evaluate candidates based on experience, production history, professionalism, business goals and cultural fit.
Schedule qualified candidates for interviews with Sterling leadership.
Maintain frequent follow-up throughout the evaluation and decision process.
Coordinate with Sterling’s training, contracting and Partner-development teams.
Remain involved through training completion and the Partner’s first qualifying application.
Maintain complete and accurate records in Sterling’s CRM system.
Track and report recruiting activity, conversion rates and Partner activation results.

How Success Will Be Measured

This position is not measured by collecting resumes or filling training classes with unqualified people.

Success will be measured by:

Qualified agent and financial-professional conversations;
Qualified candidates presented to Sterling;
New Partner agreements;
Training completions;
First qualifying applications;
First cases placed or funded;
New Partner activity and retention.

Required Qualifications

At least three years of recruiting, business development or outbound sales experience.
At least two years of experience recruiting insurance agents, financial advisors or other commission-based financial professionals.
Demonstrated success with proactive outbound recruiting.
Ability to provide measurable recruiting results and conversion rates from previous positions.
Strong phone, presentation and relationship-building skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with experienced and successful insurance and financial professionals.
Organized follow-up and accurate CRM documentation.
Comfortable working in a performance-based environment with clear production expectations.
Strong judgment and willingness to reject candidates who do not meet Sterling’s standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience recruiting life insurance agents, annuity producers or retirement-focused financial professionals.
Experience recruiting or working with professionals who serve educators, school employees or 403(b) participants.
Working knowledge of 403(b) plans, educator pensions, retirement rollovers, annuities, life insurance and retirement-income planning.
Understanding of independent insurance distribution, carrier contracting, IMOs, FMOs and agent appointments.
Existing relationships within the insurance, education or financial-services industries.
Previous experience as an insurance producer, agency manager, field recruiter or advisor recruiter.

Compensation

This position includes:

$50,000 annual base salary;
Performance bonuses tied to qualified Partners who complete training, submit their first qualifying application and place their first business;
Uncapped earning potential;
Target annual compensation of approximately $105,000–$110,000 after the initial ramp-up period;
Potential to earn more than $125,000 with strong performance.

Who Should Apply

This position is best suited for someone who enjoys prospecting, recruiting and persuading experienced professionals to consider a better business opportunity.

You should be comfortable making outbound calls, handling rejection, maintaining long-term follow-up and being held accountable for measurable results.

Experience in the educator and 403(b) market is valuable, but it is not mandatory if you have a strong record of recruiting insurance agents or financial professionals and can quickly learn Sterling’s market.

If your recruiting experience has primarily consisted of posting jobs and processing incoming applicants, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.
