Auditor – A-123 Job Description

GenTech Associates is a consulting firm that helps federal agencies improve financial and operational performance. We are seeking a motivated Auditor – A-123 to support federal internal control and audit readiness initiatives for a federal client in the Alexandria, VA area. If you have experience with federal auditing, internal controls, risk assessments, and OMB Circular A-123 requirements, we'd love to hear from you.

Salary: $75,000–$95,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the position.

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Auditor – A-123 with experience supporting federal internal control assessments and audit readiness activities. The candidate will support the evaluation, documentation, and testing of internal controls in accordance with OMB Circular A-123, Management's Responsibility for Internal Control, as well as applicable federal financial management and audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Support assessments of internal controls in accordance with OMB Circular A-123 and applicable federal requirements.
Perform and document internal control testing, including testing of control design and operating effectiveness.
Conduct walkthroughs and interviews with process owners to understand business processes and identify key risks and controls.
Develop and maintain process narratives, flowcharts, risk and control matrices, and other audit documentation.
Identify control deficiencies, process gaps, and areas of potential risk.
Support the development and tracking of corrective action plans and remediation activities.
Gather, review, and evaluate supporting documentation and audit evidence.
Assist with management assessments and reporting related to internal controls and financial management.
Support internal and external audits by responding to information requests and providing appropriate documentation.
Coordinate with finance, accounting, procurement, HR, and other functional teams to evaluate compliance with established policies and procedures.
Prepare audit workpapers, summaries, findings, and other deliverables for federal clients.
Communicate audit findings, control issues, and recommendations to management and process owners.

A-123 / Internal Control Knowledge

Candidates should have familiarity with one or more of the following:

OMB Circular A-123 – Management's Responsibility for Internal Control
Internal control assessments and testing
Risk assessments and risk/control matrices
Control design and operating effectiveness
Process documentation and walkthroughs
Control deficiencies and corrective action plans
Federal financial management and internal control requirements
Federal audit readiness and audit support
GAO Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government (Green Book)
Federal financial business processes and systems

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Auditing, or a related field.
2+ years of experience in auditing, internal controls, risk management, or federal audit readiness.
Experience supporting federal clients or federal financial management programs preferred.
Knowledge of OMB Circular A-123 and federal internal control requirements.
Experience with control testing, audit workpapers, process documentation, and audit evidence.
Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Ability to identify control gaps, evaluate risks, and develop practical recommendations.
CPA, CIA, CISA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.

Experience

Auditing, internal controls, or federal audit readiness: 2 years (Required)
OMB Circular A-123 / federal internal controls: 2 years (Preferred)
Federal government or federal contractor experience: 2 years (Preferred)

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
