Director, Human Resources

Location: Sherman Oaks, CA or Nashville, TN
Job Type: Full -Time | Remote. Candidates must currently reside in either the Los Angeles, CA or Nashville, TN metro areas.

Schedule: Monday – Friday (8:00AM – 5:00PM)

Pay: Starting at $105,000/annually

Casa Loma College is seeking a Director, Human Resources who will be responsible for providing strategic and operational Human Resources and Talent Acquisition leadership for Casa Loma College, a multi-campus, multi-state, not-for-profit institution of higher education. This position serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, academic leadership, and department heads, ensuring that human resources practices support institutional effectiveness, employee engagement, regulatory compliance, and the college’s mission.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Director, Human Resources is a senior leadership role that oversees all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, compensation and benefits, performance management, and organizational development. This role requires hands-on leadership in a fast-paced, resource-conscious environment and expertise in managing HR operations across multiple states and regulatory frameworks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Institutional Partnership

Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, advising on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, and change management.
Align HR strategies, policies, and initiatives with Casa Loma College’s mission, values, and long-term institutional goals.
Provide guidance to leadership on complex employee matters, risk mitigation, and organizational effectiveness.
Use HR metrics and data to inform decision-making, assess trends, and support continuous improvement.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Development

Lead and oversee recruitment and hiring for faculty, staff, and leadership positions across all campuses and operational locations.
Partner with academic and administrative leaders to develop clear, compliant, and competitive job descriptions and hiring strategies aligned with institutional needs.
Design, implement, and continuously improve onboarding programs that effectively integrate new employees into the college’s culture, expectations, and operations.
Develop and oversee professional development, leadership development, and training initiatives that support employee performance, engagement, and long-term retention.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

Serve as the primary resource for employee relations, conflict resolution, investigations, and corrective action.
Develop and oversee performance management processes, including evaluations, coaching, and progressive discipline.
Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture that supports engagement and accountability.
Ensure consistent and equitable application of HR policies and practices across departments and campuses.

Compliance, Policy & Risk Management

Ensure institutional compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, including multi-state regulations.
Develop, maintain, and enforce HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
Support compliance with accreditation requirements, nonprofit regulations, and internal audits related to human resources.
Lead risk management efforts related to employment practices, employee classification, wage and hour compliance, and workplace safety.

Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations

Oversee compensation structures, salary administration, and pay equity initiatives.
Manage employee benefits programs, leaves of absence, and wellness initiatives.
Partner with finance and payroll to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance.
Oversee Paylocity, personnel records, and reporting to ensure data accuracy and confidentiality.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives across the institution.
Ensure equitable hiring, promotion, and employment practices.
Provide guidance and training to leaders on inclusive leadership and workplace practices.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Work Experience

Minimum of 7 years of progressive human resources experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role with direct reports.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of employment law and HR compliance, including multi-state regulations.
Experience developing and implementing HR policies, procedures, and employee relations strategies.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion and integrity.

Preferred Skills

Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience in higher education and/or nonprofit organizations.
Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP).
Experience supporting accreditation or regulatory compliance in an educational environment.
Experience and knowledge of California employment laws.
Experience managing employees located in various states.

Work Environment & Expectations

This position may require travel between campuses and occasional evening or weekend availability.
The role operates in a dynamic higher education environment with evolving regulatory and operational needs.
