Tax Manager (Remote, Nationwide)
Reeder CPA Group

About the firm

Reeder CPA Group is a remote-first, full-service CPA firm serving small business owners, franchise owners, family-owned businesses, and real estate investors nationwide. We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join the firm ahead of the coming filing season, with onboarding planned for Q4.

This is a client-facing role. The Tax Manager is the primary point of contact for an assigned book of clients, sets and refines their tax strategy throughout the year, and leads the relationship from kickoff through the final return review. The role is supported so that the focus stays on strategy and client relationships rather than production. It is also a role that will evolve. We are actively integrating AI into how tax work gets done here, and the candidates who thrive will be the ones who adapt with it. If your preference is heads-down return preparation, this is not the right fit.

Core responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned book of clients
Establish the overall tax strategy for each client at onboarding and refine it throughout the year based on their engagement level
Lead strategy sessions and kickoff calls with new and existing clients
Perform high-level review of returns prepared by your team, confirming that the strategies discussed with the client were actually implemented
Conduct return delivery calls, walking clients through the completed return before e-filing
Remain available for client questions and stay current on what is happening in each client's business between formal meetings
Connect clients with the right internal teams when needs fall outside tax, including bookkeeping and IRS resolution
Adopt and adjust to new AI-supported review and preparation workflows as they are integrated

Who you manage

You will work with an executive assistant who supports your workflow and a preparation team whose work you direct and review. Keeping returns moving on schedule is part of the role.

Technical fluency is not optional. You should be comfortable learning new software quickly, working entirely within cloud-based systems, and troubleshooting your own tooling without hand-holding.

Where this role is headed

We are integrating AI into tax workflows now, and over the next 6 to 18 months the way review and preparation work gets done at this firm will change meaningfully. We are direct about this because it matters to who fits here. We are looking for someone who is comfortable adjusting as new tools are rolled out, who is willing to learn systems that did not exist a year ago, and who sees the shift toward strategic advisory and client relationships as the interesting part of where this profession is heading rather than something to wait out.

How performance is measured

1. Reviews completed on time

2. Client responses within 24 hours

3. Attendance at client meetings

Qualifications

Active CPA or EA credential
Experience managing a book of business tax clients and serving as their primary contact
Comfort leading client conversations, including strategy discussions and return walkthroughs
Experience reviewing returns prepared by others and directing a preparation team
Openness to adopting the firm's established strategy framework
Demonstrated ability and willingness to adapt to AI-integrated workflows as they are introduced
Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment

Compensation and logistics

$75,000 to $125,000 depending on experience and production
Potential for additional bonuses based on KPI performance
Fully remote, open to candidates nationwide
Onboarding planned for Q4, ahead of the coming filing season
Start date is flexible for the right candidate

Pay: $75,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
