Full Job Description

The Payroll & Grant Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of all payroll-related accounting functions and the financial administration of federal, state, local, and private grant funding. This position ensures payroll is processed accurately, grant expenditures are properly recorded and monitored, and all financial reporting complies with applicable accounting standards, grant requirements, and Community Health Alliance policies.

Working closely with Human Resources, department leaders, and Finance, this position serves as the primary resource for payroll accounting, grant financial management, labor allocations, and grant compliance while supporting organizational financial integrity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Payroll accounting principles

Grant accounting and compliance

Federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) preferred

Fund accounting principles preferred

Internal controls and financial reporting

General ledger accounting

Payroll tax regulations

Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

Automated accounting and payroll systems

Budget preparation and financial analysis

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Advanced attention to detail and accuracy

Effective written and verbal communication

Financial reconciliation and reporting

Spreadsheet development and financial analysis

Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines simultaneously

Strong customer service and collaboration skills

Maintain strict confidentiality

Interpret financial reports and grant requirements

Analyze complex financial information

Work independently while managing multiple priorities

Meet strict regulatory and reporting deadlines

Build collaborative relationships across departments

Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial staff

Adapt to changing priorities and funding requirements

Education, Experience and Qualifications

Required

Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field.

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.

Minimum of two (2) years of payroll administration experience.

Experience preparing financial reconciliations and journal entries.

Proficiency using computerized accounting and payroll software.

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience with nonprofit or healthcare accounting.

Experience managing federal or state grants.

Experience with HRSA, Uniform Guidance, or other federally funded programs.

Experience with UKG and Sage Intacct (or similar ERP systems).
