Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA/CMA) is responsible for providing clinical and administrative

support to physicians and advanced practice providers in a busy urology practice. The MA/CMA

assists with direct patient care, diagnostic procedures, patient education, and ensures efficient

clinic operations while maintaining high standards of patient service and confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Patient Care

 Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for provider evaluation.

 Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, medication lists, allergies, and chief

complaints.

 Perform patient intake and update medical records accurately in the electronic health

record (EHR) system.

 Prepare examination and treatment rooms, ensuring adequate supplies and equipment.

 Assist physicians and providers during examinations and office procedures.

Urology-Specific Clinical Duties

 Assist with in-office urological procedures including cystoscopy, vasectomy, prostate

biopsy, catheter insertion and removal, bladder instillations, uroflow testing, and post-

void residual measurements.

 Perform urinary catheter care, including insertion, removal, irrigation, and patient

education as permitted by state regulations and competency.

 Collect, label, and process laboratory specimens, including urine samples.

 Perform point-of-care testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.

 Assist with sterile procedures and maintain aseptic technique.

Medication and Treatment Administration

 Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered by

providers and within scope of practice.

 Prepare medications and supplies for procedures.

 Refill prescriptions and process medication requests under provider direction.

 Educate patients regarding medications, procedures, and treatment plans.

Care Coordination and Communication

 Communicate test results, provider instructions, and follow-up information to patients as

directed.

 Coordinate referrals, imaging studies, laboratory testing, and specialty appointments.

 Answer patient telephone calls and triage clinical concerns according to established

protocols.

 Respond to patient portal messages and document communications appropriately.

Documentation and Compliance

 Document patient care activities accurately and timely in the EHR.

 Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

 Ensure compliance with OSHA, infection control, and clinic safety standards.

 Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance activities.

Inventory and Equipment Management

 Monitor and maintain clinical supplies and inventory.

 Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment according to established

protocols.

 Ensure examination rooms and procedure areas are appropriately stocked and organized.

Qualifications

 High school diploma or GED required.

 Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

 Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).

 Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain within established

timeframe.

 Minimum one (1) year of clinical medical assistant experience preferred.

 Previous urology experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures.

 Understanding of urology procedures and conditions preferred.

 Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and medical office software.

 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

 Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

 Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.

 Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

 Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

 Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.

 Ability to assist patients with mobility as needed.

 Frequent use of computers, telephones, and medical equipment.

Work Schedule

 Part Time/Full-time, typically 24-30 hours per week

 Monday through Friday, with occasional schedule adjustments based on clinic needs.
