Full Job Description

Overview
The Night Shift Sanitation Working Lead is responsible for leading and performing sanitation activities throughout a high-volume bakery production facility. This position ensures production areas, equipment, tools, floors, and food-contact surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized according to company procedures, food-safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The Working Lead provides hands-on direction to the sanitation team while helping maintain a safe, efficient, and sanitary production environment.

Responsibilities:

Lead and work alongside sanitation employees during nightly cleaning operations.
Assign daily sanitation tasks and ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
Clean and sanitize production equipment, conveyors, mixers, ovens, racks, floors, drains, walls, and other facility areas.
Follow established sanitation procedures, SSOPs, chemical handling requirements, and food-safety programs.
Verify proper disassembly, cleaning, sanitizing, and reassembly of production equipment.
Inspect completed sanitation work and correct deficiencies before production begins.
Monitor sanitation employees for proper work practices, PPE use, and adherence to safety procedures.
Train and coach sanitation employees on cleaning methods, equipment, chemicals, and food-safety requirements.
Properly measure and use cleaning chemicals and maintain required chemical concentrations.
Complete sanitation records, inspection forms, checklists, and other required documentation.
Communicate sanitation issues, equipment problems, safety concerns, and incomplete work to management.
Assist with pre-operational inspections and ensure production areas meet sanitation requirements.
Maintain a clean and organized sanitation supply area and report shortages of chemicals, tools, or PPE.
Follow OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and company food-safety requirements.
Respond to sanitation needs or spills during production when required.
Help investigate recurring sanitation problems and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain confidentiality and follow all company policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Sanitation Manager or Supervisor.

Qualifications

Previous experience in industrial food-production sanitation preferred.
Prior lead, trainer, or supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of bakery or food-processing sanitation practices strongly preferred.
Ability to read and follow sanitation procedures and chemical labels.
Ability to safely operate sanitation equipment and use cleaning chemicals.
Ability to work independently while effectively directing a team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding production environment.
Previous experience in industrial food-production sanitation preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs/ladders, and work in confined or difficult-to-access areas.
Ability to lift and move cleaning supplies and equipment as required.
Ability to work around water, heat, flour, food-production equipment, cleaning chemicals, and wet/slippery surfaces.
Ability to wear required PPE, including gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, hearing protection, and other safety equipment.
