Position Summary

The Senior Accountant supports the financial integrity and operational stability of St. Raphael Health – Dallas by maintaining accurate accounting records, leading key close and reconciliation activities, strengthening internal controls, and producing timely financial information for leadership. The position performs and reviews complex accounting work across multiple entities and locations, including general ledger, accounts payable, cash and treasury activity, payroll reconciliation, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, expense allocations, budgeting, and audit support. The Senior Accountant works closely with Revenue Cycle, Payroll, Human Resources, department leaders, banking partners, and external auditors and handles confidential financial and employee information with a high degree of judgment, accuracy, and discretion.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Coordinate the day-to-day accounting workflow and provide functional guidance, review, and support to assigned accounting personnel.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately, completely, timely, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and organizational policies.
Develop and maintain clear accounting procedures, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and documentation that promote consistent practices and an effective internal-control environment.
Identify unusual transactions, reconciliation differences, control weaknesses, and emerging financial risks; research root causes, recommend corrective action, and escalate significant issues promptly.

Financial Close and Reporting

Lead assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and variance analyses.
Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow information, departmental or location-level reporting, and consolidated reports for affiliated entities.
Analyze actual results against budget, prior periods, and operational trends; investigate material variances and provide clear explanations to Finance leadership.
Prepare and maintain expense-allocation methodologies and schedules, including shared costs, insurance expenses, CSG/CPS allocations, and other interdepartmental or intercompany charges.
Maintain complete workpapers and an organized audit trail for all significant balances, entries, estimates, and financial reports.

Cash, Treasury, and Banking

Monitor daily cash activity and bank balances and provide cash-position reporting to authorized leadership.
Reconcile all bank accounts, deposits, electronic receipts, transfers, merchant activity, and other cash transactions within established timelines.
Coordinate authorized transfers among bank accounts to support liquidity needs while maintaining appropriate approvals, segregation of duties, and documentation.
Safeguard checks and other negotiable instruments and ensure deposits are processed promptly in accordance with policy.
Prepare and reconcile intercompany accounts, due-to/due-from balances, shared-service allocations, and elimination entries across affiliated entities.
Communicate the daily allocation or source detail for bank receipts to Revenue Cycle and other authorized stakeholders to support accurate posting and follow-up.

Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Expense Controls

Oversee the accounts payable cycle, including vendor setup, invoice processing, coding, approval, payment, aging review, and monthly reconciliation of accounts payable to the general ledger.
Monitor corporate credit-card activity, supporting documentation, expense coding, timely reconciliation, payment, and compliance with purchasing and expense policies.
Reconcile payroll registers, payroll liabilities, deductions, taxes, and cash funding to the general ledger each pay period; coordinate resolution of discrepancies with Payroll and Human Resources.
Maintain vendor, fixed-asset, prepaid-expense, accrual, and other accounting schedules and ensure additions, disposals, amortization, and depreciation are recorded appropriately.
Support administration and accounting for organizational insurance policies, including premium allocations, payment tracking, renewals, and reconciliation, in coordination with responsible leadership and brokers.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field required; a degree in Accounting is strongly preferred.
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including general ledger, financial reporting, account reconciliation, and month-end close responsibilities required.
Healthcare, hospital, multi-entity, or other complex regulated-industry accounting experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience providing work direction, reviewing accounting work, or leading accounting processes preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential preferred but not required.
