Position Summary
The Director of Construction provides strategic leadership for the organization's project delivery function and is responsible for the day-to-day execution of construction operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the company's quality standards. This role develops operational strategy, establishes standards, manages departmental performance, and ensures all projects align with company financial, operational, and growth objectives. The Director oversees multiple regional departments and personnel including project managers, superintendents and installers, and coordinates with various cross-functional resources, and subcontractors across the organization. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring active involvement in project execution while establishing the foundation for long-term regional success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead construction operations across multiple projects, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
- Provide direct leadership, coaching, and development for Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel while helping build the regional team.
- Actively support project planning, execution, and issue resolution, including hands-on project management responsibilities.
- Monitor project financial performance, labor productivity, resource utilization, and forecasting to drive profitable outcomes.
- Build strong relationships with customers, participate in key project and owner meetings, and support business development and repeat-client opportunities.
- Establish and improve operational processes, project management standards, and best practices to support scalable growth.
- Analyze and manage key performance indicators including profitability, safety, schedule performance, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Identify operational risks and implement corrective actions to ensure successful project delivery.
- Support hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession development to strengthen regional operations.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop regional growth strategies, resource plans, and operational objectives.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant construction leadership experience may be considered.
- 7+ years of progressive construction, project management, or operations experience, including leadership responsibility for projects, teams, and operational performance.
- Proven track record of delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and at or above targeted profitability goals.
- Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and holding accountable Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership while building high-performing teams.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects across varying customers, project sizes, and geographic locations.
- Strong understanding of construction financial management, including project budgets, forecasting, WIP, cost-to-complete, labor productivity, change management, backlog, cash flow, and margin performance.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership responsibilities with hands-on involvement in project planning, execution, issue resolution, and operational support as business needs require.
- Proven ability to work effectively across Sales, Estimating, Engineering, Finance, Safety, Supply Chain, Scheduling, Project Management, and Field Operations to drive successful project delivery.
- Experience implementing or improving project management processes, operational standards, and best practices to support consistent project execution and scalable growth.
- Strong understanding of OSHA requirements, construction safety practices, and a demonstrated commitment to building a proactive safety culture.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and customer relationship management skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites, active projects, and company locations as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction, project operations, or specialty contracting experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
- Experience in design-build, specialty contracting, engineered products, or turnkey project delivery environments.
- Demonstrated success building teams, expanding operations, and supporting business growth initiatives.
- Experience implementing project management processes and operational best practices.
- Familiarity with Acumatica ERP or similar construction management systems.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety standards, including OSHA and ANSI requirements.
- Experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, or safety-related industries.

Physical Requirements
This is a largely sedentary role. This position may require employees to sit at a computer station/desk for prolonged periods of time up to 8 hours a day. The employee is regularly required to read, count and write to accurately complete documentation required for position. Employees must be able to use hands and fingers to operate keyboard and phone and to file and operate office equipment. This position may require some walking, bending, reaching and standing. Occasional travel may be required, up to 15%, depending on business needs and project requirements.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time salary exempt position with a typical Monday through Friday schedule, following a standard 40-hour workweek. Regular business hours apply, generally within the range of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and may vary based on company needs.
