Full Job Description

Description

In order to create a pool of qualified applicants, Columbia Basin College (CBC) accepts applications for adjunct faculty to teach course offerings throughout the year. Applications are kept in the pool through the duration of the academic school year.

Instructional Rate: $72.72 - $72.72 per hour
Non-Instructional Rate: $50.00 - $50.00 per hour
Meeting Rate: $30.00 - $30.00 per hour

If work is performed outside of instruction, it will be paid at the non-instructional rate of $50.00 per hour or the meeting rate of $30.00 per hour.

The Visual Arts Department is seeking applicants for an Adjunct Instructor. This position will include teaching in-person and/or hybrid instruction for Visual Arts courses as needed by the department. Adjunct faculty provide instruction for 11-week courses (Fall, Winter, Spring) and/or 8-week courses (Summer). There is no guarantee of continued employment beyond the quarter course assignment. Applicants with the appropriate qualifications may be considered for additional classes.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching and committed to student success, ensuring a high-quality learning experience for all students. They will demonstrate flexibility in meeting the instructional and general responsibilities of their course assignment, including the effective use of diverse learning resources and technologies.

Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted directly by the appropriate dean or lead; otherwise, applications will remain in the pool for future consideration.

Primary Responsibilities

Teach courses which may include Art Appreciation, Art History, and Studio courses;
Develop and deliver course content that is engaging, relevant, and accessible to a diverse student population;
Foster a stimulating classroom environment that encourages student participation and success;
Maintain accurate student records and provide reasonable accommodations as per ADA guidelines;
Respond to student communications promptly and ensure access to course information; and
Collaborate with campus affinity groups and contribute to initiatives that support inclusivity and equity.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Art or a related field;
Strong communication, organizational, and visual literacy skills;
Able to work with diverse student populations and faculty;
Proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems (i.e. Canvas, Panopto, Zoom);
Committed to culturally responsive teaching strategies and practices; and
Washington State residency, unless the employee is able to work fully in-person on the CBC campus.

Preferred Qualifications

College teaching experience; and
Available to teach during afternoon and/or evening hours.

The quarter schedule for the 2026-2027 academic year is as follows:
Fall 2026: September 21 - December 10
Winter 2027: January 4 - March 25
Spring 2027: April 5 - June 16
Summer 2027: June 28 - August 20
