Job Overview
CDL A Truck Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator (Grapple Truck)
Orleans Co Tree Service – Richmond, VA Area

Pay: $28–$31/hour + overtime | Local work – home daily (no OTR)

Operate modern automatic CDL A trucks and heavy equipment in a high-production environment. You’ll run late-model Western Star and Kenworth grapple trucks equipped with rear-mounted loaders (Serco, Palfinger) to move large volumes of wood and debris safely and efficiently.

This is a local, home-daily position—no over-the-road travel. Ideal for veterans with experience in heavy equipment, transportation, or logistics looking for consistent, year-round work with modern equipment.

Orleans Co Tree Service is a well-established, high-production tree care company based in the Richmond, Virginia area. We’re seeking a reliable operator who can work independently, maintain production standards, and take pride in equipment and job quality.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and drive an automatic grapple truck to haul wood, debris, and materials to and from job sites
Safely operate a rear mounted grapple loader (Serco, Palfinger, or similar) for loading and unloading
Load logs, tree trunks, and brush efficiently using a grapple attachment
Perform job site cleanup to maintain safe and productive work areas
Conduct routine equipment inspections and maintenance, including fluids, grease points, filters, bolts, and overall condition
Report mechanical or safety issues promptly to management
Assist with storm response and emergency work when needed
Track loads, materials, and job activity for internal reporting

Requirements

Valid CDL Class A (air brake endorsement required)
Experience operating grapple trucks, knuckle boom cranes, or similar heavy equipment
Ability to work independently and maintain production standards
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to perform physical work as needed (climbing in/out of truck, handling materials, etc.)
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety

What We’re Looking For
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for an operator who is comfortable driving and operating a grapple truck efficiently and safely without constant oversight, understands production expectations in a tree care environment, and takes pride in equipment and job quality.
