Position Summary
Swift + Company is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Transportation Supervisor & Dispatcher to lead daily transportation operations, supervise drivers, coordinate dispatch activities, and ensure timely pickup and delivery services for our customers.
This role is responsible for routing trucks and hot shot vehicles, overseeing driver performance, monitoring transportation activities, responding to operational challenges, and maintaining high standards of customer service, safety, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment, and experienced in transportation dispatching, fleet coordination, and team leadership. This position requires close collaboration with drivers, warehouse personnel, customers, and office staff to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation operations.
This role serves as a key operational leader and is expected to provide after-hours support for transportation activities, including emergency customer needs, time-sensitive deliveries, driver issues, and operational disruptions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation Operations & Dispatching
- Receive and process transportation needs, shipment orders, and delivery schedules.
- Schedule and dispatch drivers, trucks, hot shot vehicles, and equipment based on customer requirements, route efficiency, equipment availability, and delivery timelines.
- Create, manage, and optimize daily routes using routing and dispatch software.
- Monitor driver locations, route progress, delivery status, and service performance throughout the day.
- Adjust schedules and routes as necessary to accommodate traffic conditions, weather, customer requests, equipment breakdowns, and operational changes.
- Coordinate emergency pickups, deliveries, and time-sensitive transportation requests.
- Ensure all deliveries and pickups are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
- Provide after-hours dispatch support as needed for deliveries, pickups, driver assistance, and customer service issues.
- Prioritize transportation requests based on urgency, customer commitments, and operational requirements.
- Communicate transportation schedules and updates to customers, drivers, and internal teams.
Driver Supervision & Fleet Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during daily operations.
- Supervise, support, and coordinate drivers to ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and customer service expectations.
- Monitor driver performance, attendance, productivity, and safety practices.
- Assist with driver onboarding, training, coaching, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Conduct regular driver safety meetings, performance reviews, and coaching sessions to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with management in the recruitment, onboarding, retention, and disciplinary processes for transportation personnel.
- Receive and document reports involving vehicle breakdowns, accidents, cargo damage, service failures, or emergency situations.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repair requirements to ensure fleet readiness and reliability.
- Ensure proper utilization of fleet assets while minimizing downtime and operating costs.
- Verify vehicle availability and coordinate resources to meet customer demands.
Customer Service & Relationship Management
- Maintain regular communication with sales/customers regarding transportation schedules, shipment status, delays, and service requests.
- Respond promptly and professionally to sales/customer concerns and service issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with sales/customers through reliable service and effective communication.
- Support customer retention efforts by consistently delivering high-quality transportation solutions.
Warehouse & Inventory Coordination
- Coordinate transportation activities with warehouse personnel to ensure efficient loading, unloading and set up of events.
- Communicate transportation updates, dispatch schedules, and work orders to warehouse leadership.
- Verify product returns through documentation, including packing list paperwork.
- Inspect returning items to ensure received goods match shipping documentation.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain accurate dispatch records, transportation logs, sales/customer communications, and operational reports.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable transportation regulations.
- Document and report incidents, accidents, service failures, and corrective actions.
- Track and report key transportation metrics, including on-time delivery performance, fleet utilization, driver productivity, and service levels.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and cost control.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in dispatching, transportation coordination, logistics, or fleet operations.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or team management experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Strong knowledge of, route planning, dispatch procedures, and fleet coordination.
- Proficiency with transportation management systems, GPS platforms, dispatch software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transportation environment.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and respond effectively to operational challenges.
- Must be available to support emergency deliveries and pickups when required.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Transportation supervision or fleet management experience.
- Experience managing hot shot transportation operations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Experience working in warehouse, logistics, or distribution environments.

Schedule & Availability
- Tuesday through Saturday
- Day shift with flexibility based on operational needs.
- Approximately 50 hours per week.
- Weekends, and holiday support is required.
- Must be available to respond to calls related to customer deliveries, pickups, driver support, transportation emergencies, and operational disruptions.
