Full Job Description

Summary: We are excited to welcome a new member to our team that demonstrates a kingdom-minded approach to service. The ideal candidate is culturally aware and sensitive to the intricate realities of urban children and families in minority communities. This awareness fuels a desire and commitment to investing in at-risk youth for long-term and sustainable impact.

Function: To directly supervise and continuously train teaching staff in order to ensure the academic quality of the after-school program and summer activities. Monitor and advise teachers in classroom management skills in order to create and maintain an environment conducive to learning and positive social interaction. Oversee daily operations, manage budgets, perform administrative tasks and ensure programs align with the organizational mission.

Directly responsible to: Executive Director

Requirements: Personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ required. Must be a self-starter who enjoys and works well with others from a diverse background. Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in education. 2+ years’ experience teaching within a public or private school setting. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of early reading skills is a must, along with ability to assess student abilities. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are required.

Responsibilities may include:

Interviewing and training new teaching staff
Conducting semi annual employee reviews and quarterly check-ins, creating goals for employee development
Creating and maintaining an academic activity/resource library
Conducting student testing as needed, and analyzing results
Supervising and investing relationally in students during academics, recreation, and transportation
Actively cultivating and developing relationships with parents, teachers, and community partners
Performing various administrative tasks and planning weekly field trips/enrichment activities
Participating in fund development and special events for the organization
Directly supervising teachers and reading specialists to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, as well as the delivery of quality academic intervention and classroom management

Additional considerations:

Position is directly responsible to the Executive Director. Subordinates will include any volunteer tutors and teaching staff at the center
This position comes with generous paid time off. The role’s adherence to the Richmond Public School schedule typically provides 28 days off. In addition, staff are given a month off in the summer and 10 days of PTO which can be taken throughout the year. School planning days are staff planning days.
Health insurance stipend of $6,000 per year, 3% IRA matching, short-term disability
Typical hours are 10am-6pm during the school year (10am-2:30pm planning and 2:30-6pm programming with students present) and 8am-4pm in the summer (includes one-on-one instructional time, professional development, and relationship building opportunities with students)

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
