Full Job Description

Position Summary

Richmond Allergy & Asthma Specialists is seeking a compassionate and dependable Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our team full-time. The Allergy Injection Specialist is primarily responsible for administering allergy immunotherapy injections, monitoring patients for adverse reactions, providing patient education, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Allergy Injection Room. This position also cross-trains to provide occasional support in the Allergy Laboratory as needed to maintain efficient clinic operations.

Essential Responsibilities

Administer allergy immunotherapy injections according to physician orders and established protocols.
Monitor patients following injections and recognize and respond appropriately to adverse reactions.
Notify the provider of any significant patient reactions or concerns.
Educate patients on allergy immunotherapy, injection schedules, and epinephrine auto-injector use.
Accurately document injections, patient communications, and vaccine administration in the electronic medical record and allergy software.
Coordinate with providers and laboratory staff regarding patient immunotherapy treatment plans.
Cross-train to provide support in the Allergy Laboratory, including immunotherapy extract preparation, as needed for staffing and operational needs.
Verify patient identity, physician orders, and immunotherapy vials prior to administration.
Monitor vaccine inventory within the shot room and report supply needs.
Ensure emergency medications and equipment are stocked, readily available, and within expiration dates.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe injection room in accordance with OSHA and infection control standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Participate in staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Current Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
Current CPR certification required.
At least two years of experience in a physician office or outpatient clinical setting preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with providers and clinical staff.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds.
Manual dexterity required for administering injections and performing clinical duties.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Work Environment

Medical office setting with frequent patient interaction and exposure to communicable diseases consistent with a healthcare environment.

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Day shift, Monday–Friday. No nights, weekends, or major holidays.

Location: One office location.
