Job Description: RN – MedSurg/Tele
Department: BHLEX – Lexington 5H

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Schedule: 1st Shift | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Hours: 36 hours/week | 3 × 12-hour shifts

Position Summary

The RN – MedSurg/Tele provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to patients in a medical-surgical/telemetry environment. The RN is responsible for assessment, care planning, treatment, patient education, care coordination, and evaluation of outcomes while applying evidence-based nursing practice, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.

The RN will work collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to promote patient safety, healing, wellness, and quality outcomes throughout the patient's hospitalization.

Key Responsibilities

Perform and document comprehensive nursing assessments in accordance with RN scope of practice and hospital policies.
Assess patients while considering their age, culture, developmental needs, presenting condition, and individual risk factors.
Collect and evaluate subjective and objective patient information from patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
Develop and prioritize patient problems and individualized plans of care.
Establish desired patient outcomes in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
Implement nursing interventions, treatments, therapies, and procedures safely and effectively.
Monitor patients' responses to treatments and recognize and communicate changes in condition promptly.
Conduct and document ongoing assessments using the nursing process.
Explain procedures, treatments, and care processes to patients and families.
Provide patient- and family-centered education based on identified needs and level of understanding.
Facilitate admission, transfer, and discharge activities.
Execute discharge orders and ensure appropriate discharge teaching is completed.
Coordinate discharge planning with Case Management and other appropriate departments.
Delegate appropriate patient-care activities to other team members and monitor the accuracy and completeness of delegated care.
Promote a positive, respectful, and healing environment.
Participate in unit-based activities and organizational initiatives.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and monitoring of clinical outcomes.
Support quality measures related to patient satisfaction, falls, pressure injuries, CAUTIs, documentation, and other applicable metrics.
Apply a holistic approach when assessing and caring for patients.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, evidence-based practices, regulatory requirements, and current research.
Demonstrate safe practices and appropriately address age-specific patient safety needs.
Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.

Required Qualifications

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure & Certification

Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
BLS certification required.

Required Skills

Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making abilities.
Knowledge of the nursing process and evidence-based nursing practice.
Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
Strong patient and family education skills.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient-care responsibilities.
Understanding of computer systems and electronic healthcare applications, or ability to learn them.
Ability to assess age-specific safety risks and implement appropriate interventions.
Strong professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Experience

No prior experience required.
Previous nursing experience preferred.
MedSurg/Telemetry experience is beneficial.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate and clinically capable Registered Nurse who can provide safe, holistic care in a fast-paced MedSurg/Telemetry environment. The RN should demonstrate strong assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively while maintaining patient-centered care.

Pay: $52.00 - $60.00 per hour
