Full Job Description

Job Summary

Seeking a Construction Company Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting activities, including processing accounts payable and receivables, posting journal entries, and reconciling bank and credit card statements. This full-time roll will support project budgets, track job costs, and assist with preparing financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements. The Accountant will maintain accurate ledgers, help ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax requirements, and coordinate with external partners such as auditors and vendors. The role also includes maintaining payroll records, supporting financial forecasting, and providing timely financial data to management for decision making. This is an on-site position in Henrico VA, requiring regular collaboration with project managers and office staff.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities including data entry, journal entries, and double-entry bookkeeping to ensure accurate financial records.
Reconcile balance sheets, general ledger accounts, and bank statements regularly to maintain data integrity.
Process accounts payable and receivable transactions efficiently using software such as QuickBooks, or similar systems.
Process payroll weekly, quarterly reporting, and year end W-2 processing.
Prepare financial reports, perform Excel data analysis, and support budgeting and financial planning efforts.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP and SOX regulations while supporting governmental or non-profit accounting requirements.
Collaborate on month-end closing activities including account analysis, tax preparation support, and audit readiness.

Skills

Extensive experience with accounting software including QuickBooks
Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SOX compliance standards, and governmental or non-profit accounting practices.
Proficiency in Excel data analysis techniques combined with excellent numeracy skills for accurate account reconciliation and financial review.
Knowledge of technical accounting concepts such as journal entries, debits & credits, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis.
Ability to manage accounts payable/receivable processes efficiently while maintaining high attention to detail.
Familiarity with payroll systems for payroll management and tax experience is preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while ensuring accuracy in all financial data entry and reporting.
