Senior Cybersecurity Advisor (vCISO Program Support)

Location: New York City, NY

Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote with Periodic Onsite Visits

Employment Type: Contract / Consulting

About Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Advisor to support a long-term Virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) engagement for a public-sector organization in New York.

This role will serve as a key member of a cybersecurity advisory team responsible for supporting cybersecurity strategy, security architecture, penetration testing oversight, cloud security, vulnerability management, and security engineering initiatives.

The selected candidate will work closely with the Lead vCISO, Project Manager, and Cybersecurity Advisory Team to strengthen cybersecurity posture, support risk reduction initiatives, and provide technical leadership for critical security programs.

Responsibilities

Provide cybersecurity advisory and consulting services.
Conduct security architecture reviews and recommendations.
Lead and oversee penetration testing activities.
Support vulnerability management and remediation initiatives.
Perform cloud security assessments in Azure and/or AWS environments.
Develop secure architecture and Zero Trust recommendations.
Support IAM and access control initiatives.
Participate in risk assessments and cybersecurity reviews.
Assist with executive reporting and technical findings presentations.
Collaborate with cross-functional technical and business stakeholders.
Participate in occasional onsite meetings in New York City.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 7 years of cybersecurity experience.
Minimum 3 years of cybersecurity advisory, consulting, or security leadership experience.
Experience supporting enterprise cybersecurity programs.
Experience with penetration testing and vulnerability management.
Experience with cloud security architecture.
Experience with Microsoft and/or AWS security technologies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Required Certifications

Must possess one or more of the following:

· GPEN – GIAC Penetration Tester,

· OSCP – Offensive Security Certified Professional

· CEH – Certified Ethical Hacker

· eCPPT – Certified Professional Penetration Tester or equalent

· CompTIA PenTest+

Equivalent advanced cybersecurity certifications may also be considered.

Preferred Experience

· New York public-sector experience

· State or municipal government experience

· Pension fund or financial services experience

· NIST Cybersecurity Framework expertise

· Zero Trust Architecture initiatives

· Security Architecture leadership

Education

Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

Work Location

Primarily remote
NYC local candidates preferred for onsite periodic meeting

*Candidate must be allowed to work for any employer in the United States.
