About Cairn Connections

Cairn Connections provides Applied Behavior Analysis services and meaningful community-based support for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our team is passionate about helping clients build independence, confidence, communication, social, daily living, and community participation skills across real-life environments.

This summer, Cairn Connections is offering The Wander Program, a summer-specific intensive ABA program designed to support youth with developmental disabilities through structured, engaging, community-based experiences.

Position Summary

The Summer Camp Behavior Technicians support youth with developmental disabilities in The Wander Program. This is not a traditional recreational camp. The Wander Program provides medically necessary ABA services and follows the same clinical, documentation, supervision, and ethical requirements as other ABA services. It also is not your average ABA clinic program.

The Wander program uses community outings and carefully tailored social situations to help youth build meaningful skills in natural environments where skills are directly applied in everyday life. The goal is to provide intensive support during the summer months so clients can increase independence, improve social and adaptive skills, and transition into the upcoming school year with greater success.

Activities may include swimming, visiting museums, hiking, visiting local ranches, interacting with animals, participating in group activities, practicing community safety, navigating peer interactions, and many other structured learning opportunities.

The Wander Program is designed to help youth practice important skills in real-life environments. Staff will support clients in areas such as:

Social skills and peer interaction
Community safety
Following group routines
Flexibility and coping with change
Communication and self-advocacy
Independence during activities
Emotional regulation
Transition readiness for the school year
Daily living and adaptive skills
Participation in leisure and recreational activities

The Wander Program is structured to be fun, engaging, and meaningful while still meeting the requirements of medically necessary ABA treatment.

What You’ll Do

As a Summer Camp Behavior Technician for The Wander Program, you will work directly with youth under the supervision of a BCBA or qualified clinical supervisor. You will implement individualized ABA programming while supporting clients in community, group, and activity-based settings.

Responsibilities include:

Provide direct 1:1 and small-group ABA support to youth with developmental disabilities
Implement individualized behavior intervention plans, skill acquisition programs, and clinical recommendations
Support clients during community-based activities such as swimming, hikes, museum visits, ranch visits, animal interactions, social interactions, and recreational outings
Help clients build social, communication, self-management, safety, daily living, and transition skills
Support positive peer interactions and participation in structured social situations
Collect accurate data during sessions according to clinical requirements
Complete required session notes and documentation in a timely manner
Follow behavior support plans, safety protocols, and crisis prevention procedures
Use reinforcement, prompting, fading, shaping, modeling, and other ABA-based teaching strategies
Support clients with transitions, group participation, coping strategies, and independence
Communicate professionally with supervisors, team members, caregivers, and community partners
Maintain client dignity, confidentiality, and respect at all times
Follow all Cairn Connections policies, HIPAA requirements, and applicable ABA service standards

Requirements

Applicants must:

Be at least 18 years old
Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Pass required background checks
Have reliable transportation
Hold a valid driver’s license and auto insurance, if transporting or traveling between community locations is required
Be comfortable working in community settings and outdoor environments
Be able to swim or safely support clients around water, if assigned to swimming activities
Be willing to follow clinical protocols and collect data during sessions
Be dependable, energetic, patient, and professional
Be comfortable supporting youth with developmental disabilities and behavioral support needs

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with children or youth with developmental disabilities
Experience in ABA, behavioral health, special education, childcare, summer camp, respite care, or direct support services
Current CPR/First Aid certification
Experience supporting community outings or group-based programming
Strong communication and teamwork skills

Physical Requirements

This position may require the ability to:

Walk, hike, stand, bend, kneel, sit, and move for extended periods
Participate in outdoor and community-based activities
Support clients in active environments, including parks, pools, museums, ranches, and community locations
Respond quickly to safety concerns or behavioral situations
Lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds as needed
Work in varying weather conditions during outdoor activities
