I’d put it in the qualifications section and make it clear it’s a requirement, especially since they’ll be driving your girls.
Household Manager / Family Assistant
We’re looking for an exceptional Household Manager / Family Assistant to become a consistent, long-term part of our busy family and help keep our home and day-to-day life running smoothly.
Monday- Thursday 9-5 with flexible Fridays
This is not a traditional nanny position. While helping with our two girls, ages 2 and 7, is very important important part of the role, we’re really looking for a highly capable, organized person who naturally sees what needs to be done, takes initiative, and can help manage the moving pieces of a busy household.
We live on a farm outside of Rigby with horses, cattle and other animals, so someone who enjoys an active, outdoorsy environment will fit right in. Our days are busy and varied, and we’re looking for someone who can bring organization, consistency and an extra set of capable hands to our family.
What the role looks like
Responsibilities will vary from day to day and may include:
- Helping manage household schedules, appointments and activities
- Keeping the family organized and anticipating upcoming needs
- Running errands, grocery shopping and household restocking
- Laundry and light household organization
- Helping keep commonly used spaces organized and functioning
- Preparing simple meals and snacks for the kids
- Driving children to activities, lessons and appointments
- Engaged childcare for our 2- and 7-year-old daughters
- Helping our 7-year-old stay on track with her online homeschool curriculum
- Providing additional tutoring or educational support when needed
- Planning fun activities, projects and outings for the girls
- Coordinating with parents on schedules, priorities and household needs
- Taking ownership of tasks without needing step-by-step direction
- Generally helping us stay one step ahead rather than constantly playing catch-up
This position does not require deep house cleaning. We have separate help for that. We’re looking for someone to help manage the household and the everyday tasks that keep a busy family running.
Who we’re looking for
The right person for us is someone who is:
- Extremely dependable and trustworthy
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Proactive and comfortable taking initiative
- Confident managing multiple priorities
- Warm, patient and genuinely enjoys children
- Energetic and comfortable with an active family
- Comfortable around horses, livestock and farm animals
- A safe and confident driver
- Flexible and able to adapt when plans change
- Comfortable working independently
- The type of person who notices something needs to be done and simply handles it
Previous experience as a household manager, family assistant, nanny, teacher, paraprofessional, personal assistant or executive assistant would all translate well to this position.
A background in education is a major plus. We homeschool our oldest daughter online, so someone who enjoys teaching and would feel confident providing additional academic support would be especially valuable.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Reliable transportation
- Must be willing and able to pass a background check
- Dependable attendance and reliable communication
- Comfortable transporting children as part of the position
Because this person will be trusted with our children, home and transportation, a successful background check and clean driving record are non-negotiable requirements of the position.
More than a nanny position
We’re ultimately looking for someone who wants to become an important and trusted part of our family’s day-to-day life.
There will be days that are very kid-focused and other days when the biggest help might be tackling errands, laundry, organizing something that’s gotten away from us, managing schedules or getting the household reset.
We’re not looking for someone who needs a checklist for every hour of the day. We’re looking for someone who can walk into a busy household, understand the priorities and think, “What can I take off their plate today?”
If you’re someone who loves kids but also thrives on organization, problem-solving and making life run more smoothly, we’d love to hear from you.
