JOB PURPOSE
The Community Impact division advances the mission of United Way and 211 through programs that empower community efforts and improve lives. The division includes the organizational departments for Economic Mobility, Housing, Behavioral Health, and the 211 Contact Center, as well as programs and projects such as disaster readiness, grantmaking, and other community initiatives.
Program Coordinators support Community Impact programs and services across the organization. This role works with one or more programs and projects and may move between assignments based on operational needs. This position works with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including but not limited to justice-involved, youth, seniors, families, and unhoused community members. Program Coordinators are responsible for coordinating activities based on their assignment, interacting with participants and supporters, conducting outreach in the community, and working collaboratively with other programs and departments to create a seamless experience for those we serve.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Program Coordinators are assigned to work on one or more programs and may be reassigned based on operational needs. Program Coordinators must promote all programs and services offered by the organization.
- Represent United Way and 211 with a high degree of reputational excellence and exceptional customer service.
- Coordinate day-to-day operations of assigned programs to ensure goals, timelines, and deliverables are met.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for program participants, partners, and stakeholders, escalating communications to organizational leadership when appropriate.
- Coordinate services and provide program support for a wide range of backgrounds, including unhoused, youth, seniors, justice-involved, and other populations with varied cultural, social, and economic needs.
- Coordinate participant services, such as intake assessments, resource connections, applications, fee collection, service placement, monitoring, and case reporting.
- Assist with participant recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and ongoing communication, in collaboration with other departments, programs, and outreach staff.
- Schedule, plan, attend, and carry/setup/breakdown of equipment (e.g., canopies/folding tables) for outreach events, and track/report event outcomes and follow-up after outreach.
- Speak, present, and educate the community about available programs and services, communicating effectively with a wide range of backgrounds, including donors, volunteers, providers, and community members.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with program partners and participants through regular professional communication, compose emails and announcements, answer calls, and provide updates and other program information.
- Accurately and consistently enter and maintain program and client data, collect and maintain program statistics and information for ongoing reporting, uphold HIPAA and other applicable requirements for client data, and provide programmatic updates to leadership.
- Communicate with and assist clients, providers, and the community in a professional, compassionate, and timely manner.
- Understand and apply all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines relevant to the program, and correctly implement all organizational policies and procedures.
- Proactively seek out and learn information about all programs and services offered by the organization and inform/connect participants to other program offerings.
- Proactively maintain a clean, safe environment in the office, storage areas, and off-site services.
- Work closely with other Program Coordinators to ensure understanding about available programs and participate in outreach efforts and events as needed.
- Work closely with the External Affairs department to develop and maintain positive relationships with donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders in the community, and collect stories, quotes, and photos from participants, partners, and events to help demonstrate program impact.

Applicants should have the education, experience, and/or training necessary to fulfill the job duties. Examples of how this requirement may be met include:
- High School Diploma, GED, or High School Equivalency with 2 years of experience in a relevant field with demonstrated results and progressive responsibility; OR
- Associate’s degree with 1 year of relevant experience.
- Completion of ISC211+’s Careers Cohort may be substituted for education/experience.
Required:
- Strong computer skills and competence in Microsoft Office environment.
- Strong private internet connection when working remotely.
- Willingness to complete training and certifications relevant to the program assignment, such as but not limited to Community Health Worker, Mental Health First Aid, or certifications to deliver Anger Management or Substance Use courses.
- Commitment to attending in-person requirements such as working in-office when required for training or program activities and attending organizational gatherings.
- Ability and commitment to using a trauma-informed and equity lens while empathetically responding to the interconnectedness of barriers experienced by participants.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to active listening and the ability to adapt communication style to the audience (e.g., colleague, client, external, in-person, virtual, or written), as appropriate to role.
Preferred:
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Social service experience at an organization serving people experiencing housing instability, homelessness, food insecurity, or other needs related to low-income.

Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an office using standard office equipment such as the telephone, computer, fax machine, and copier. Tasks include moving objects like laptops and chairs, repetitive wrist and hand motions, document preparation and analysis, transcribing information, navigating software, and prolonged sitting. These represent what is necessary to perform the essential duties. This position requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, crouching kneeling, stooping, and lifting and carrying objects up to 25 lbs. Transportation Requirements
A driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum personal liability insurance as required by California law and the company's insurance carriers are required. A driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier is also required. This position involves driving a company vehicle and/or personal vehicle to various locations, attending meetings and events, regular off-site or field work, transportation of equipment or materials, and/or time-sensitive responsibilities. Mileage in personal vehicles is reimbursed at IRS standard rate.
