Optometric Assistant / Optician
Location: Fontana, CA
Job Type: [Full-Time / Part-Time]
Schedule: 2-4 days a week
Pay: [$17- $25/hour, depending on experience]
About the Position
We are seeking a friendly, dependable, and motivated Optometric Assistant / Optician to join our growing eye care team. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing excellent patient care, has strong attention to detail, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
This position will assist with both patient care and optical services, providing patients with a welcoming experience from check-in through the completion of their eyewear needs.
Responsibilities
- Welcome and check in patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Assist with pre-testing and diagnostic procedures as directed by the optometrist
- Obtain and document patient medical and ocular histories
- Perform preliminary testing such as visual acuity, autorefraction, tonometry, and other testing as trained
- Assist the optometrist during patient examinations
- Review prescriptions and assist patients with frame selection
- Take accurate measurements, including pupillary distance and segment height
- Educate patients about lens options, coatings, and eyewear products
- Assist with dispensing, adjusting, and repairing eyeglasses
- Verify orders and ensure eyewear meets prescription and quality standards
- Coordinate contact lens orders and assist patients with insertion/removal training as needed
- Schedule appointments and assist with phone calls and patient inquiries
- Maintain accurate patient records and follow office procedures
- Process payments and assist with insurance verification and optical benefits
- Keep examination rooms and optical areas clean, organized, and well stocked
- Provide exceptional customer service and maintain patient confidentiality
- Perform other duties as needed to support the practice
Qualifications
- Previous experience in an optometric, ophthalmology, optical, or medical office preferred
- Optical/optician experience is a plus
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Professional, friendly, and patient-focused attitude
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a team
- Comfortable learning new technology, equipment, and office systems
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
