Full Job Description

Job Title: Paralegal — Special Education & Estate Planning Law Firm (2 Openings)

Job Type: Full-time Location: Riverside (Other Location-Cerritos, CA) — [On-Site] Pay: $72,500 – $83,000/annually Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week

About Us

The Law Offices of Phillip Sparks APC represents students with disabilities and their families throughout Southern California. We're expanding into estate planning, conservatorships, and Social Security benefits advocacy, and we're adding two paralegals to support that growth.

This is a firm where paralegals are not treated as document processors. Our attorneys rely on our paralegals to keep cases moving, catch what others miss, and be a steady point of contact for families who are often overwhelmed.

What You'll Do

Draft and file due process complaints, requests for records, and compliance complaints
Organize and summarize voluminous educational and medical records, assessments, and IEPs
Prepare hearing exhibits, binders, and evidence indices for OAH proceedings
Assist with estate planning document assembly — trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives
Prepare conservatorship petitions and supporting probate filings, and track court deadlines
Calendar statutory and case deadlines, and maintain the master case docket
Serve as a first point of contact for client families; return calls promptly and warmly
Manage e-filing, service of process, and case management system data entry

What You Bring

Required

Bachelor's degree
Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program
Excellent written and verbal English communication
Serious organizational discipline — you track deadlines without being asked twice
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
Discretion with confidential client information

Preferred

Bilingual Spanish/English (strongly preferred — it meaningfully expands the families you can help)
Prior law firm experience, especially education law, probate, estate planning, personal injury, or civil litigation
Familiarity with California OAH, probate court e-filing, or regional center processes
Experience with Clio case management system
