Job Summary:
The Associate Dean is a member of the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) and is expected to work closely with the Dean, Department Chairs, College Offices and staff as well as with various entities on- and off- campus and with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to recommend and develop education policy. The Associate Dean will ensure policy implementation, champion excellence in teaching and learning, and promote innovation to enhance student experiences. The Associate Dean serves as a member of the Watson College of Education Dean's leadership team, and reports to the Dean. The Associate Dean is expected to assist with strategic planning and to implement initiatives related to the Mission and Strategic Plan of the College and the University. The Associate Dean supports the Dean in maintaining smooth, efficient, and effective operations in the college.
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic leadership for the College in the areas of curriculum development and planning, course scheduling, and academic support to students.
- Facilitate the development of new courses and programs in collaboration with department chairs and program coordinators.
- Handle academic petitions, grievances, and disciplinary issues.
- Serve as custodian of student records.
- Oversite of WCOE (Watson College of Education) Website Committee.
- Collaborate with Graduate Studies to oversee admissions.
- Facilitate strategic outreach to WCOE alumni.
- Provide leadership for collaborative efforts with the community and P-16 populations, particularly as they interface with university-based credential programs.
- Strengthen the reputation of the College by implementing communication strategies and ensuring that channels of communication are available between the college and key stakeholders.
- Increase the capacity of the College to build and maintain relationships with key education users and stakeholders; communicate University and College strategies and policies for education to academic, professional, and support staff within the college.
- Increase the capacity of the College to build and maintain community partnerships.
- Support the College's ongoing accreditation activities and program reviews.
- Assist department chairs and program coordinators with issues related to educator preparation program accreditation, initial program approval, and credentialing issues.
- Collaborate with the Office of Assessment and Research to develop, implement, and review unit assessment and reporting procedures, as well as review and respond to the data collection and analysis.
- Support WCOE programs in the process of continuous improvement based on valid and reliable assessment practices.
- Attend CTC (California Commission on Teacher Credentialing), CCTE (California Council on Teacher Education), CSU, and WASCU (WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)) meetings.
- Represent the college on committees, projects, and make presentations at state and national meetings.
- Be knowledgeable and available to represent or take on the responsibilities of the Dean in his absence.
- Exercise oversight of the College staff and faculty as may be assigned by the Dean.
- Perform staff and faculty evaluations as may be assigned by the Dean.
- Other classification duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree required.
- Five (5) years of management experience with progressive responsibility in the field of higher education administration, including a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience with fiscal management responsibilities.
- Tenure as an Associate or Full Professor at the time of appointment.

- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a leadership team.

- Strong and effective management and supervisory skills.
- Demonstrated experience with fiscal responsibilities, including developing and managing budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work at all levels in a large, very diverse public university.
- Demonstrated success in advancing and implementing a strategic plan that promotes campus-wide cooperation and collaborations among faculty, staff, students, academic departments and centers, to develop international initiatives, programs and policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Rank of Professor preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated administrative experience at Department Chair or above.
- Graduate Faculty status preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge and experience in educator preparation, broadly defined.
- Record of P-16 school experiences.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $12,520 - $16,202 per month

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the will of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The scope of responsibilities for this position includes making or participating in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the individual holding this position is required to file an initial Conflict of Interest: Statement of Economic Interests ("Form 700") within thirty (30 days) from the date of hire and on an annual basis. In addition, the individual holding this position must complete the required conflict of interest training within thirty (30) days of their appointment and at least once during each consecutive period of two calendar years following the appointment, subject to the Fair Political Practices Commission regulations.

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Mandated Reporter
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Campus Security Authority
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
