Full Job Description

Overview:

As a fast-paced, innovative and growing sports medicine company, we have an immediate need for a detail-oriented Medical Insurance Accounts Receivable (Collections) Specialist, with a proven track record of collecting insurance payments and patient payments. We are looking for a team player with strong medical insurance / patient accounts receivable and billing experience.

Responsibilities:

Conduct patient account follow-ups to collect outstanding balances, applying appropriate collection strategies and documenting interactions in the financial system.
Verify and analyze insurance payments, patient responsibility, and reimbursement trends; reconcile accounts receivable and resolve discrepancies.
Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance payers via phone and email with professional etiquette; escalate complex cases as needed.
Maintain accurate notes and ensure compliance with billing policies and HCPC/medical terminology standards.
Perform account analysis, and identify opportunities for process improvement in cash flow and financial accuracy.

Experience:

Minimum one-year prior insurance accounts receivable / collections experience required (2+ years preferred).
Prior DME Collections and Billing experience a plus.

Skills:

Proven experience in medical collections, accounts receivable, or related healthcare finance roles.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-10 coding, and billing procedures.
Familiarity with financial concepts such as debits & credits, account reconciliation, and revenue cycle management.
Proficiency in accounting software and financial software used in healthcare settings.
Excellent phone etiquette combined with customer service skills for effective communication with insurance representatives, patients, and staff.
Ability to negotiate payment arrangements professionally while maintaining positive relationships.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for account analysis and reconciliation tasks.
Basic math skills necessary for accurate calculations related to payments and adjustments.
Knowledge of telemarketing techniques can be beneficial for effective collection calls. This role offers an engaging opportunity for professionals experienced in healthcare finance to contribute significantly to the efficiency of our revenue cycle while providing excellent service to our patients and insurance partners.
Must be able to type a minimum of 40 WPM - Type by touch.
Ability to work efficiently and independently.
Experience with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.
