Toolmaker Requirements and Competencies

An ideal team player mindset: people smarts, humility and drive.
Minimum 5 years of toolmaking
Experience in tool building, tool design, assembly, tool concepts, various machining disciplines and techniques
Ability to set-up and operate CNC machinery and other manufacturing equipment.
Strong understanding of inspection methods and the different types of precision measuring instruments.
Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Ability to read blueprints, sketch sheets, and other technical documentation.
Strong technical aptitude.
Attention to detail, attention to accuracy in work tasks, organizational skills.
Understands having a sense of urgency, ability to manage time effectively and multi-task, meets deadlines.
Uses best judgement in decisions regarding processes and problem solving.
Ability to take initiative, seeks out answers and solutions, sees tasks through to completion.
Ability to follow work instructions/procedures/processes.
Understands and can compute advanced math concepts.
Verbal and written communication skills.

Toolmaker Duties and Responsibilities

Your role would be working with our Assembly and Tooling team and responsible for designing, building, reworking, repairing and troubleshooting all forms of tooling including jigs, fixtures, machine tools, gauges, and other tools used in the manufacturing process.

Tooling Design/Planning – Discusses tooling needs with engineering, department supervisors, and other team members; designs or modifies from previous designs various fixtures and tooling; visualizes and computes dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of tooling based on specifications.
Tooling Issues – Investigates and identifies causes of tooling issues; determines and develops plans to remake, repair, or upgrade tooling to improve machining processes and/or increase operational efficiencies.
Tooling Production – Determines various methods, processes, and equipment to use for the production of tooling, fixtures, etc.; coordinates with department supervisors to establish machine availability, when necessary; may refer to sketches or technical documentation for tooling requirements; utilizes various gages and inspection tools to ensure tooling dimensions and requirements.
Machining – Sets-up and operates conventional or CNC machinery (e.g. lathes, milling machines, grinders, etc.) to manufacture parts and tooling to specific dimensions and finishes; lays out design on raw material, cuts to size, and shapes fixtures, jigs, and other tooling with various machinery and tools.
Supports department by performing straightening, center lapping, and other processes as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

The 1st shift operates Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Additional overtime and Saturdays may be required.)
