Registered Nurse

Summit Medical is a long standing, reputable organization with over 50 years of providing quality abortion care throughout the country. At Summit we provide non-surgical abortion, as well as first and second trimester surgical procedures. We are committed to creating a stigma-free, individualized experience for each of our clients. We are looking to add to our team of medical professionals who work closely to support one another, while upholding high standards for exceptional patient care.

We are looking for a part time Registered Nurse to care for our patients before, during and after their procedures. You will be responsible for providing pre-op education and care, IV placement, medication administration, assisting the physician during procedures, and educating patients and their families on ongoing care and medication use post procedure. The ideal candidate will be a responsible and well-trained professional able to give the best nursing care with little supervision. You will be compassionate and cool-tempered. You will be able to follow health and safety guidelines faithfully and consistently. The goal is to promote patient’s well-being by providing high quality nursing care. The Registered Nurse role includes pre- and post-abortion care, and collaboration with health workers to assure patients are stable and well cared for throughout their time at Summit.

Responsibilities

Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice
Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to physicians
Collaborate with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients
Perform routine procedures (blood pressure measurements, administering injections etc.) and routine documentation
Adjust and administer patient’s medication and provide treatments according to physician’s orders
Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, etc)
Provide instant medical care in emergencies
Assist surgeons during procedures as needed
Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families
Expand knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences etc.

Skills

Proven experience as a registered nurse
Excellent knowledge of emergency care
In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to follow them at all times
A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Responsible and compassionate
Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
Patient, with excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent and efficient IV placement and care skills
Valid VA nursing license
Preference will be given for previous experience in women's issues and/or bilingual in Spanish.

Experience: Obgyn/reproductive health: 1 year (preferred)

Language: Spanish (Preferred)

License/Certification: BLS or ACLS Certification (Required); State of VA nursing License (Required)
