Tax Director – Established CPA Firm

A well-established CPA firm in Salem, Virginia with over 30 years of serving businesses and individuals is seeking an experienced Tax Director (CPA) to lead and oversee our tax practice. This leadership role offers a blend of technical challenge, client advisory work, and career growth while managing complex tax engagements, providing strategic tax planning, mentoring staff and helping guide the continued growth of the firm.

We pride ourselves on long-term client relationships, personalized service, and a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Complete and oversee preparation of federal and state tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates
Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to clients
Manage complex tax engagements and ensure compliance with current tax laws
Complete financial statement compilation engagements and other attestation services
Serve as a trusted advisor and primary contact for key clients
Supervise and mentor tax staff and accountants
Stay current on tax law developments and guide the team accordingly
Oversee preparation and filing of quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and related filings.

Qualifications

CPA license required
10+ years of public accounting experience with strong tax and accounting focus
Experience reviewing complex tax returns and providing tax planning
Strong leadership, client relationship, and communication skills
Experience with tax and accounting software (QuickBooks, AccountingCS, ProSeries or similar)
