About SolShine Energy Alternatives, LLC
SolShine Energy Alternatives, LLC is a trusted, locally rooted solar installation company serving residential and commercial customers in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding region. We are a small, tight-knit team with a big commitment to quality workmanship, honest consultation, and helping our customers make smart, long-term energy investments. As we grow our commercial and non-profit portfolio and evolve our business structure, we are looking for a motivated team member to help lead and shape our future.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional sales position. It is a rare opportunity for a curious, self-motivated professional to step into a highly influential role at a small company with real growth potential. You will guide customers from their very first question all the way to a signed contract, while also helping shape how we market, operate, and grow. You will work alongside a skilled and supportive team, with real autonomy to bring your ideas to life.
We are not looking for someone who already has all the answers. We are looking for someone who asks great questions, learns quickly, and cares about doing right by the customer and the company. If you have the drive and the mindset, we will invest in your growth.
For the right candidate, this role includes a genuine pathway to equity ownership in SolShine Energy Alternatives, LLC. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with us — because this could become a true partnership.
What You'll Do
This role spans six interconnected areas. You will not be expected to be an expert in all of them on day one — we will support your learning along the way.
1. Consultative Sales
You will be the first voice many of our customers hear. Your job is not to push — it is to listen, educate, and guide.
- Respond to incoming inquiries by phone, email, and web
- Have real conversations with prospective customers to understand their goals, concerns, and situation
- Help customers understand solar as a financial investment — turning utility spend into long-term savings, energy certainty, and a hedge against rising rates
- Explain SolShine’s approach and what makes us different
- Walk customers through financing options in plain language
- Gather the information needed to build a preliminary design and price estimate
- Collaborate with our technical team to develop and present proposals
- Use proposals as a conversation tool, not a close attempt — the goal is an informed customer
- Manage your pipeline of prospects with consistent follow-up through to a decision
- Identify when a prospect is ready for a site visit and hand off smoothly
2. Commercial & Non-Profit Sales
This is a growing part of our business and a big opportunity for someone who enjoys research and outreach.
- Research and identify potential commercial and non-profit properties that could benefit from solar
- Reach out to prospects through phone and email campaigns
- Learn and apply the key federal incentives relevant to commercial and non-profit buyers — we will help you get up to speed
- Build and track a commercial prospect pipeline
3. Marketing
You will have a real voice in how SolShine shows up in our community and online.
- Work with the team to develop and evaluate marketing ideas
- Take ownership of getting approved efforts implemented — whether you do it yourself or coordinate with vendors
- Manage our contact database to support email campaigns and targeted outreach
- Coordinate or manage Google Ads, website updates, and SEO — training and support available
- Develop or commission promotional materials
- Track what’s working and what isn’t so we can invest wisely
- Represent SolShine at networking events, Chamber functions, BNI, and community gatherings
4. Systems & Software
You do not need to be a tech expert — but you should enjoy learning new tools and thinking about how things can work better.
- Help manage our CRM transition to Pipedrive and build workflows that move prospects smoothly from first contact to installation handoff
- Support our communications platform transition, including setup for compliant SMS outreach
- Spot inefficiencies in how we work and help us improve them
5. Solar Design & Proposal Development
You will learn to use solar design software to create the “virtual” proposal that starts every customer conversation — full training provided.
- Build preliminary virtual system designs for prospective customers
- Develop working knowledge of roof vs. ground mount systems, setback rules, and trade-offs
- Help customers understand their options and what makes sense for their property
- Prepare and present proposals; write up contracts and see them through to signature
- Work with our technical team to confirm designs are accurate before site visits
- Build enough knowledge of battery storage and EV charging to have informed conversations with customers
6. Service Call Triage & Team Support
- Be the first point of contact for incoming service requests — gather information, advise on next steps, and coordinate scheduling with our technical team
- Help facilitate the weekly management meeting
Who You Are
We care more about how you think and how you show up than whether your resume checks every box.
Here is what matters most to us:
- You think like an owner — you care about outcomes, not just tasks
- You lead with curiosity and listening, not pressure
- You connect dots and solve problems without needing a playbook for every situation
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and can manage multiple priorities without losing track
- You follow through — people can count on you
- You communicate clearly and honestly, in writing and in person
- You pick up new software and systems without much hand-holding
- You can talk about money and ROI in a way that makes sense to people
- You enjoy being out in the community and building relationships over time
- You may not have done all of this before — but you are the kind of person who figures things out
Experience That Would Help (But Is Not Required)
We know great candidates often do not tick every box. These are helpful starting points, not hard requirements:
- Any background in solar, energy, construction, home services, or a related field
- Experience using a CRM (any platform — we can train you on ours)
- Familiarity with federal solar incentives, financing structures, or energy policy
- Experience with marketing, social media, advertising, or content creation
- Comfort with Google Ads, email marketing tools, or basic SEO concepts
- Experience working in or alongside a small business
Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized groups tend to only apply when they check every box. If you are passionate about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is competitive, performance-based, and built around your experience and the full scope of what you bring to the role. We will discuss specifics openly during the interview process.
Equity Ownership Pathway:
This is not just a job posting with a buzzword. For the right person, there is a genuine, structured path to becoming a part-owner of SolShine Energy Alternatives, LLC. We are a company in transition, and we want our next key hire to grow into a true stakeholder. We will talk openly about what that could look like.
Why SolShine
- Equity pathway — a real opportunity to become an owner, not just an employee
- Meaningful work — you will directly shape the future of a local business and help real people make smart financial decisions
- Autonomy — you will own your areas of responsibility, not just execute a script
- A mission worth showing up for — solar is good for the planet and good for our customers
- A team that cares — small, supportive, and committed to doing things right
- Room to grow — your role can evolve as you do
How to Apply
If this sounds like the kind of opportunity you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you. Send us a resume and a short note — email or letter, your choice — telling us what draws you to this role and what you would bring to SolShine. We are more interested in your thinking than your credentials.
Preferred Candidates
Serious candidates are encouraged to call the office and speak with our Director of Sales prior to submitting their application materials. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.
