Full Job Description

Overview

The Field Director leads the assigned team and gives positive direction to the staff to achieve team and council objectives. This team leader will be responsible for achieving strategic objectives for quality membership growth, fundraising growth, and community relations. This position is a full-time exempt position which will require travel throughout southeast Minnesota and occasional regional trips.

Duties

Professional Development. Under the guidance of the Scout Executive, directs the staff in the assigned service area by ensuring a competent staff, which demonstrates the skills of administering an effective plan of service, growth, and meaningful volunteer involvement. Gives personal leadership to each staff member to achieve the goals and other established objectives of the service area and council. Conducts regular reviews with staff members. Recommends the employment, promotion, and dismissal of all personnel on the assigned team.
Membership Growth. Provides leadership to professional staff to increase membership, participation and density of all programs. Maintains balanced growth in Lions, Tigers, Cubs, Webelos, Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouting and Exploring. Shows an increase in total units over the previous year. Achieves growth by meeting objectives in both units and youth membership. Lead outreach efforts to increase underserved and disadvantaged youth/families. Reduces the number of dropped units over previous year. Improve/maintain youth retention.
Volunteerism. Leads team members to develop, recruit, train and motivate a volunteer corps to achieve objectives. Assists District Executives with governance matters, including the nominating committee process to seek out community and institutional contacts to develop stronger volunteer leadership in the service area.
Financial Development. Provides leadership to service area staff to achieve Friends of Scouting (FOS) and Product Sales objectives. Trains staff to become successful campaign managers for community fundraising, product sales campaigns, and budget management. Assists staff to recruit, train, and motivate sufficient quality volunteers to make the campaigns successful. Assists with council campaign plans, including analysis, prospecting, and development. Assists service area to show an increase in total net dollars over the previous year in each area and an increase in the total number of donors over the previous year.
Unit Service. Assists service area staff in recruiting, training, and motivating unit commissioners. Supervises staff in completing all unit recharters and resolving membership or registration issues.
Team Leadership and Coverage. Tracks workflow and work time of assigned staff. Provides coverage when staff vacancies occur to assure continuity of service until a successor has been appointed.
Other job-related duties as assigned such as committee and event staff advisor.

Experience

Five years or more experience as a Scouting America professional or significant volunteer experience.
Seeking an individual who is professional in dress, well-spoken, and comfortable in social and networking settings.
Strong interpersonal, written communication, and verbal presentation skills.
Highly proficient in computer use – specifically Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PPT).
Team player, positive attitude, resourceful, and willing to learn.
Eligible for employment in the United States of America and commission from Scouting America.
Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment with passionate and committed people.
Flexible schedule is frequently required for evening/weekend events.
Ability to communicate effectively with top corporate and community leaders.
Organizational skills and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
Well-organized, detail-oriented, and polished staff leadership skills.
Excellent analytic skills with a proven commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
Fiscal management and budget development.
Must possess a focus on continuous improvement and growth, both within the organization and within oneself.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
