POSITION PURPOSE
This position exists to provide a program of health care services, health information, and preventative health education to RCTC and WSU-R students. Special attention is given to the college environment and health factors that may influence a student’s academic potential or accomplishment.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
Working independently, provide nursing services to students.

Utilize guidelines approved by the Medical Director:

Assess student health and wellness needs.
-
Provide safe, caring, and quality nursing services.
-
Provide referral information for campus and community resources.
-
Assist with on-site nurse practitioner services.
-
Collect specimens and perform clinical laboratory tests according to CLIA specifications.
-
Develop and confidentially maintain accurate records of student services provided.

Provide leadership in administration of Student Health Services
- Develop and administer policies and procedures for operation of Student Health Services.

Perform annual assessment of services and develop goals and strategies for continuous improvement.
-
Recommend annual budget.
-
Coordinate details of contract for Medical Director and mid-level practitioner services.
-
Coordinate details of contract for Mental Health therapist services.
-
Coordinate details of contract for off-site laboratory services.
-
Facilitate coordination and development of available services within the department, including schedule for NP and mental health therapist.
-
Coordinate with Nursing, Allied Health, and other academic programs to provide health-related program requirements for students within the scope of available services.
- Provide work direction to support staff and work study students.

Promote services offered within Student Health Services.

Secure equipment and supplies required to deliver services.
-
Meet regularly with Vice President of Student Affairs.

Provide relevant health promotion and education opportunities for students.
- Provide health education to individual students, based on assessed needs.

Offer group health and wellness presentations.

Develop and implement health promotion and awareness events.

Distribute health and wellness information through various campus publications, including The Buzz newsletter.

Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
- Provide liaison services between College and health-related community partners.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of MN and current CPR for healthcare provider
- Communication skills sufficient to: effectively communicate both orally and in a written manner with students, health care providers, other college personnel, and people within the community.
- Knowledge of budgeting procedures sufficient to: efficiently plan for expenses and revenue to manage Student Health Services.

Organizational skills sufficient to: effectively manage Student Health Services.

Physical demands sufficient to: occasionally lift up to 40 lbs., stand and/or sit for long periods of time, ambulate within campus buildings.
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in nursing.

Experience working with a diverse group of adult learners.

Experience working in acute healthcare setting.

Experience working in public or community health setting.

Knowledge of communicable disease transmission and prevention.

Knowledge of local campus and community resources.

Knowledge of RCTC and WSU-R including policies, procedures, and programs
