General Manager / Chief Operating Officer
Position Description
Midvale Country Club is seeking an experienced, highly engaged General Manager / Chief Operating Officer (GM/COO) to provide executive leadership for all aspects of Club operations.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the GM/COO will be responsible for executing the strategic direction of the Club while overseeing its day-to-day operations, financial performance, team development, member experience, facilities, programming, and long-term planning.
The GM/COO will lead and develop the Club's department heads, establish and maintain high standards of performance and accountability, and foster a culture centered on exceptional service, teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.

About the Role
The GM/COO will:
- Provide executive leadership for all Club operations while ensuring a first-class member and guest experience. Serve as a highly visible, approachable, professional, and engaging representative of Midvale Country Club.
- Serve as the Club's Chief Operating Officer and primary liaison to the Board of Directors. Translate the Board's strategic vision and objectives into actionable operating plans while maintaining appropriate distinction between Board governance and management responsibilities.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term operating and strategic plans designed to strengthen the Club's financial position, facilities, programming, membership experience, and organizational culture.
- Recruit, hire, lead, mentor, and develop department heads, including Food & Beverage leadership, Executive Chef, Golf Course Superintendent, Head Golf Professional, and other department leaders. Establish clear expectations, measurable objectives, and accountability throughout the organization.
- Conduct regular leadership meetings and performance reviews to ensure departments are achieving established financial, operational, service, and member-satisfaction goals.
- Develop, present, and manage the Club's annual operating and capital budgets. Monitor revenues, expenses, cash flow, and departmental performance and provide timely and accurate financial reporting to the Board.
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and ensure the accurate and timely completion of membership billing, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, purchasing, vendor management, and other financial and administrative responsibilities.
- Lead the Club's Human Resources function, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee development, compensation administration, personnel records, workplace policies, and compliance with applicable employment laws.
- Foster a positive, professional, accountable, and team-oriented workplace culture that attracts and retains outstanding employees.
- Ensure comprehensive safety and risk-management programs are maintained for team members, members, and guests and that the Club operates in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Negotiate and manage supplier agreements, purchasing programs, service agreements, and vendor contracts to ensure appropriate quality, service, and financial value for the Club.
- Develop and oversee the Club's marketing and communications strategy in collaboration with the Board, committees, and appropriate department leaders.
- Maintain a strong presence throughout the Club and develop meaningful relationships with members. Proactively solicit feedback, anticipate member needs, address concerns, and continually identify opportunities to enhance the member and guest experience.
- Establish and communicate a clear management philosophy that promotes exceptional service, operational excellence, fiscal responsibility, accountability, teamwork, employee development, and continuous improvement.
- Work collaboratively with the Board on long-range planning, capital priorities, membership initiatives, and other strategic opportunities that position Midvale for continued success.
About You — Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- 3+ years of private-club leadership experience
- 5+ years of direct P&L responsibility and significant financial oversight
- 3+ years of demonstrated responsibility for developing, managing, and successfully delivering against annual operating budgets
- 5+ years of experience leading, managing, mentoring, and developing teams
- Demonstrated knowledge of Human Resources practices and legal and regulatory requirements applicable to Club operations
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze operating results, identify trends, manage expenses, and make sound business decisions
- Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to establish accountability while developing a positive and collaborative organizational culture
- A highly visible and approachable leadership style with the ability and desire to build meaningful relationships with members and their families
- A genuine commitment to elevating the member and guest experience and creating a Club environment in which members and team members feel recognized, valued, and engaged
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, club management, or a related field
- CMAA and/or PGA affiliation, certification, or demonstrated commitment to continued professional development
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience with private-club management software; experience with Jonas Club Software is preferred
- Experience working with a member-elected Board of Directors and Club committee structure
- Experience with capital planning, facility improvement projects, and long-range strategic planning
