Scope of Responsibility
Cascade Engineering is currently hiring for the position of Set Up/Process Technician level 2. In this role, you will be working in the Plastic Injection Molding environment and will perform mold changes on injection molding and related machines. Sets up secondary equipment and fixtures as well as assists with material handling, and other responsibilities, as needed.
You will have an opportunity to work with a diverse, supportive and driven team across all the plants! With this opportunity, you will be collaborating with your team to produce high quality components while learning to build new processes and work as a team to solve complex issues while working with large-scale plastic molding presses.
Location: Buursma Plant (4950 37th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512)
Shift: Night shift from 6pm - 6:10am (working 3 days one week, 4 days the next including every other weekend)
Target Pay: The target starting base salary for this position is $20.74 - $30.00/hour (plus $1.20 shift premium plus quarterly bonus incentive). General Responsibilities

Follow change over procedures and all other necessary standard work in performing all tasks as assigned

Understands and utilizes Lock Out/Tag Out procedure
- Safely utilize tools (knives, nippers, etc.) and secondary equipment to produce high quality products and include knowing how to use Personal Protection Equipment, proper lifting techniques, safety around conveyors, and how to safely use torches.

Using “quality criteria” to ensure products are produced in a manner to meet established quality standards

Enter scrap numbers into MODS as directed by standard work
- Read and apply information provided on deviations and quality alerts

Able to access and read a Bill of Material

Can properly fill out and utilize clamp calculation sheet
- Performs mold changes safely and efficiently
- Understands core logic/sequence
- Has the ability to determine the appropriate Knock Outs/Ejector Bars setup
- Knows why and how to inspect platen holes, bolts, cranes, and chains
- Knows why and how to inspect a lift lug
- Has the ability to hook up water, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic lines and verify all auxiliary equipment is functioning as intended
- Has the ability to make repairs to auxiliary lines including replacing lines, replacing O-rings, and replacing fittings
- Has the ability to set up an injection molding machine to the MSU
- Communicates effectively and includes shift change overs, walkthroughs, and mold change
- Can set up and troubleshoot Secondary Equipment such as hot-stamping equipment
- Understanding and completion of TPMs - Daily or Weekly as required
- Understands and can identify the basic components of a mold
- Has the ability to fill out service requests
- Understands and follows incident report procedures
- Can effectively shut down all presses in plant to perform a mold change

Will provide leadership and training to new technical team members, as needed

Responsible for completing and maintaining all required training, including but not limited to: Routsis Online Training (to the level of Technician 2), LOTO Class and Certification, forklift testing and licensing, Overhead Chain and Crane testing and licensing, Basic Mold Change Assessments, “7 Habits” leadership class, “Diversity Theater”, etc.

Must be 18 years old or older

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent; or equivalent experience (3 years of Plastics Technology)

Must have a valid Drivers’ License

Must have basic reading and writing skills

Must have basic technical math skills

Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

At least 1-year prior experience in Material Handling; specifically working with raw resins (plastics) is preferred.

Must have 1 – 2 years’ experience in forklift driving

Must have basic mechanical aptitude

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Must have basic computer knowledge, specifically using Microsoft Office products

Strong attention to detail is required

Proficient in Microsoft 365

Associate’s degree in Plastics is preferred

Previous Lock Out/Tag Out experience is preferred

Previous die setting experience, with injection molds, is strongly preferred

Previous Routsis or Paulson training is preferred

Prior certification in Overhead Chain and Crane is preferred
