Job Description
HB Fleming is a deep foundations contractor based in South Portland, ME, specializing in micropile, small diameter drilling, driven pile, sheet pile, and ground improvement work. We are looking for hardworking, safety-minded operators to support our ground improvement crews on commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects across New England. The ability to travel Monday–Friday, a great work ethic, and a willingness to do whatever is asked or needed, including laboring, are just as important as prior experience for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate all-terrain and variable-reach forklifts (telehandlers) on construction sites.
- Support ground improvement crews during mobilization and setup, jobsite production, and demobilization
- Load, unload, transport, and stage materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with stone column and vibro-compaction operations, including aggregate handling and placement
- Spot and assist operators with equipment positioning and safe movement in tight access conditions
- Willingness to fill labor roles when necessary
- Manage spoil piles, maintain site cleanliness and overall housekeeping
- Install and monitor all safety-related signage and supplies on site, including warning signs, cones, and barriers. Report any unsafe behaviors to your direct foremen
- Assist with moving drill tooling, casing, pipe, rebar, grout materials, and other heavy construction components.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and complete required documentation.
- Conduct routine maintenance including fueling, greasing, and cleaning equipment.
- Identify and report equipment deficiencies or repair needs.
- Maintain safe travel paths and material storage areas.
- Follow site-specific safety plans, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
- Assist with general labor duties when equipment operation is not required.
- Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and field crews to maintain production schedules.
What We're Looking For
- An individual who's going to show up to work every day, arriving on time, with a good attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience working around drill rigs, pile driving equipment, or specialty foundation equipment preferred
- A team player that is willing to dive in and do whatever is necessary to get the job done. This includes labor and getting dirty
- Familiarity with grout mixing, pumping, or concrete placement a plus
- Comfortable using hand and power tools including grinders, cutting torches, and pneumatic equipment
- Physically capable of lifting 75 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in all weather. We work 12 months of the year in New England
- Strong teamwork and communication skills are a must — being a reliable crew member is essential
- Valid driver's license required; ability to travel throughout New England and work extended hours
- OSHA 10 preferred; willingness to obtain OSHA 30 and site-specific safety training required
