Full Job Description

This position provides resources and support for pregnant women, newborns, and their families through home visiting. Healthy Start/Healthy Families was designed to aid in the prevention of child abuse and neglect in at-risk families by providing appropriate modeling techniques, education, and other supportive services through home visiting. The Family Support Engagement Specialist will report to the Supervisor.

Specific duties include:

Conduct creative outreach, engage, enroll and assess all participants upon enrollment

Create and maintain a weekly schedule that will, at a minimum, include trainings: staff meetings, team meetings, scheduling home visits, preparing for home visits, facilitating home visits, accomplishing required documentation in a timely manner

Assist in developing and maintaining participant records and program documentation according to contract and organization standards (assessments, goal planning, progress notes, etc.)

Provide appropriate modeling techniques, education and other supportive services as delineated in individual family service plans

Provide case management services (information, referral, and linkages)

Monitor quality of care by conducting home visits

Participate in weekly supervision

Participate in the quality improvement process

Participate in trainings, staff meeting and team meetings

Work cooperatively with staff and community partners in communicating the mission, services and goals of the organization

Provides other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of local health and human service providers

Interpersonal skills such as courtesy, compassion, tact, and confidentiality

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; quick learner on unfamiliar computer programs; as well as the ability to operate electronic devices including but not limited to: laptop computer, fax machine, copy machine, smart phone

Ability to work flexible hours; evenings; weekends

Ability to work independently; self-directed and motivated

Ability to comply with confidentiality policy by maintaining the integrity of client sensitive material

Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing

Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively

Ability to establish and maintain effective working and trusting relationships

Acceptance of individual differences

Experience in working with or providing services to children and families

Experience working with culturally diverse populations

Knowledge of infant and child development

Willingness to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., has capacity for introspection, communicates awareness of self in relation to others, recognizes value of supervision, etc.)

Awareness of sociocultural characteristics of service population

Ability to handle stressful situations

Ability to observe and accurately report (verbal and written) the functioning of individuals, families and children

Knowledge of effective parenting skills

Reflective listening skills

Ability to set appropriate limits and boundaries with participants

Ability to handle emergencies and life-threatening situations effectively

Ability to act decisively when necessary to protect families, individuals and children

Ability to assist in identifying and setting goals

Ability to work individually and as part of team

Ability to lead parent/child groups

Basic Qualifications:

At least a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; One year of experience working with children/families; Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with current automobile insurance; Detailed orientated, quick learner, self-motivated, deadline oriented and able to pass a Level 2 Background Screening. Preferred: Bi-Lingual; Previous experience in a social services organization; Infant Mental Health Endorsement; Nonprofit experience; Experience working with diverse communities, organizations, and agencies.

Special Note: Required to push/pull up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Involves sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending/stooping, climbing, reaching, crawling/crouching, and repetitive motion. Other motions/functions maybe be required that are not included.

Must clear a level 2 background check in accordance with Florida Statutes and drug test.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
