California Northstate University (CNU) is a private university with the main campus located in Elk Grove, California, approximately 15 miles south of Sacramento. CNU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Elk Grove facility currently houses the College of Pharmacy, College of Medicine and Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences Programs.
The California Northstate University College of Health Sciences (CNUCHS) campus is located at 2910 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 along with the College of Psychology and Master of Healthcare Administration Programs. The College of Health Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (BSBMS) degree, and post-baccalaureate programs and pathways. The CNUCHS curriculum is designed to provide excellent academic preparation for careers in the biomedical professions.
Position Overview:
The California Northstate University College of Health Science (CNUCHS) is continually seeking excellent teaching faculty for part-time instruction in the BSHS Program. The chemistry adjunct faculty will promote and support the mission of the College of Health Sciences at California Northstate University by providing quality instruction in chemistry lecture and/or laboratory. The candidate must demonstrate pedagogical expertise and content knowledge. This position is 100% in person, on campus.
Part-time faculty are expected to maintain the highest standard of classroom teaching excellence, adhere to college policy, and hold regular office hours for student assistance. Part time faculty may also be asked to attend regular meetings with course lead faculty to maintain alignment with institutional and course learning outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Make effective use of appropriate technology, learning software, and the learning management system in course delivery
● Develop an effective teaching style informed by best practices in education literature
● Perform data collection related to monitoring of program and general education learning outcomes as needed to fulfill assessment requirements and to monitor student success
● Communicate effectively with students regarding course content, assignments, and exams
● Keep regular office hours for students, provide tutoring assistance as needed, and perform student advising duties
Courses of Primary Teaching Responsibility:
● General Chemistry I & II with laboratory

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee is regularly in a typical office environment with adequate light and moderate noise levels. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. Air-conditioned buildings; tile, concrete and carpeted floors; adjustable workstation with ergonomic keyboard provided if necessary. Adequate parking.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle files, computers, and phones; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum):
· A master’s degree in chemistry, or related fieldwith college teaching experience. Demonstrated ability to develop innovative teaching strategies, and experience working with diverse groups.
· Experience with education technology, such as learning management software (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) is preferred.

Anticipated Start Date: Spring semester start date will be January 7th; Summer term start date will be May 4th, and Fall semester start date will be Sept 2nd.
