DEPARTMENT: Energy Resources - Engineering, City of Rocky Mount
JOB SUMMARY: This position performs skilled technical work in the acquisition, maintenance and analysis of Energy Resources Department data; assists with Energy Resources Department applications; designs simple utility pole relocations: assists with execution of utility pole attachment agreements. This position performs difficult skilled work in the acquisition and maintenance of geographic data.
REPORTS TO: The Energy Resources Engineering Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions.
An incumbent in this position may be designated as Staking Engineer I, II or III dependent upon the qualification, experience and knowledge of the selected applicant.
SALARY RANGE:
$27.92-$41.89 per hour (Staking Engineer I )
$30.79-$46.18 per hour (Staking Engineer II )
$33.94-$50.91 per hour (Staking Engineer III )
Staking Engineer I
Knowledge of electric distribution and transmission systems.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to electric.
Knowledge of Energy Resources Department specific computer software, hardware, and peripherals.
Knowledge of proper safety procedures, rules and regulations including NESC, OSHA, and City policies.

Staking Engineer II

Staking Engineer III

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Staking Engineering Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the National Electric Safety Code; American Public Power Association Safety Manual; the City of Rocky Mount Personnel Manual; OSHA regulations; relevant federal and state laws and regulations; and City work policies and safety practices. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied technical duties. Changing priorities and the need for accuracy contribute to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to prepare and maintain geographic information system data. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other City personnel, vendors, consultants, and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and climbs ladders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves. The work may occasionally require working in close proximity to equipment and conductors energized with high voltage electricity.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: Staking Engineer I has None. Staking Engineer II / III has functional supervision over assigned summer interns.
