Summary:
Responsible for capturing data from medical records for the purpose of reimbursement, statistics, research/studies, resource allocation and benchmarking, as well as works daily with the CDI Auditors, provides education and is part of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Team (CDI).
Responsibilities:
1. Assigns ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes to Inpatient Hospital accounts.
2. Is a member of the CDI team and works closely with the CDI auditors to obtain clinical documentation to support appropriate reimbursement as well as increase the severity of illness.
3. Operates equipment and maintains work areas.
4. Acquires age-specific knowledge necessary to provide appropriate level of service and communications.
5. Takes an active role in self-development.
6. Other duties and responsibilities as needed.
Other information:
Education Requirements:
- Associate in healthcare, Health Information Technology
- Graduate from Health Information Technology program
Licensure/Certifications:
- RHIT, RHIA and/or CCS AHIMA approved.
Professional Experience Requirements:
- 3 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical - Medical Inpatient Coder.
- Experience in ICD-10.
