ATC Healthcare is seeking compassionate and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our healthcare team at the Montcalm County Jail in Stanton, Michigan.
This part-time/PRN position offers flexible scheduling with weekday, evening, and weekend shifts available. Our goal is to provide continuous, high-quality medical care to inmates while offering a schedule that accommodates your availability whenever possible.
Working in jail healthcare provides a unique opportunity to practice a wide range of nursing skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Nurses work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, mental health professionals, and correctional staff to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to an underserved patient population.
As a Jail Healthcare Nurse, you will:
Perform intake medical screenings and comprehensive nursing assessments.
Evaluate and respond to inmate sick call requests.
Prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications in accordance with provider orders.
Monitor and manage inmates with acute and chronic medical conditions.
Conduct chronic care clinics, including diabetes management and routine health monitoring.
Perform tuberculosis screening and follow-up testing as required.
Complete mental health screenings and facilitate referrals when appropriate.
Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate nursing care.
Coordinate off-site appointments, specialty care, hospital follow-up, and continuity of care.
Communicate with physicians and advanced practice providers regarding patient care needs.
Assist providers during onsite medical clinics and physical examinations.
Verify medications with community pharmacies and healthcare providers.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
Monitor medication inventory and assist with prescription renewals and over-the-counter medication supplies.
Provide health education to patients and assist with training for facility staff as needed.
Participate in quality improvement activities and ensure compliance with facility policies, nursing standards, and applicable regulations.
Current Michigan RN or LPN license in good standing.
Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification.
Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Previous experience in emergency, medical-surgical, urgent care, family practice, behavioral health, or jail healthcare is preferred but not required.
Ability to successfully complete all required background, health, and facility screening requirements.
