Lead HVAC Service Technician / Sales & Project Manager
707 Plumbers & Electric – Sonoma County, CA
Job Summary
707 Plumbers & Electric is expanding our HVAC division and seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Service Technician / Sales & Project Manager who is ready for an opportunity to do more than simply run service calls.
This is initially a hands-on position. The right candidate will be capable of diagnosing, servicing, and repairing residential HVAC systems, performing system evaluations, clearly communicating options with homeowners, and helping coordinate system installations and replacements.
As our HVAC division grows, this position will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility for sales, estimating, project management, installation coordination, technician leadership, and day-to-day HVAC operations.
We are looking for someone who wants to help build and shape a growing HVAC department—not someone who needs an already-built department handed to them.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HVAC professional who has strong technical skills, communicates well with customers, takes ownership of their work, and is ready to grow into a leadership role.
Responsibilities
- Perform residential HVAC service, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
- Diagnose issues with furnaces, air-conditioning systems, heat pumps, and modern high-efficiency HVAC equipment.
- Perform comprehensive system evaluations and identify repair, replacement, and upgrade opportunities.
- Clearly explain system conditions and present repair versus replacement options to homeowners.
- Provide HVAC system sales and prepare accurate estimates for residential projects.
- Identify and develop furnace, air-conditioning, heat pump, and complete system replacement opportunities.
- Coordinate HVAC installation and replacement projects from initial sale through completion.
- Plan equipment, materials, labor, and other project requirements.
- Monitor job costs and help ensure projects are completed efficiently and profitably.
- Perform quality-control inspections and project follow-up to ensure a high standard of workmanship and customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with office staff to schedule, coordinate, and manage HVAC service and installation projects.
- Maintain accurate service records, estimates, project documentation, and customer information.
- Help develop procedures, workflows, and operating systems as the HVAC division grows.
- Maintain compliance with applicable safety requirements, EPA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company standards.
- As the department expands, help train and lead technicians and installers.
- Take on increasing responsibility for day-to-day HVAC department operations, sales, project management, and team leadership.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong residential HVAC service, diagnostic, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance experience.
- Solid knowledge of furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and modern high-efficiency HVAC systems.
- The ability to confidently diagnose mechanical and electrical HVAC issues.
- Experience reading electrical diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer technical information.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to homeowners.
- The ability to confidently present repair, replacement, and system-upgrade options without relying on high-pressure sales tactics.
- Experience estimating and organizing residential HVAC installation and replacement projects.
- An understanding of job costing, equipment, materials, and labor requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple service calls and projects.
- The ability to take ownership, solve problems, and determine what needs to happen next without constant direction.
- A desire to help build a growing department and advance into a leadership position.
Prior experience as a lead service technician, field supervisor, comfort advisor, HVAC salesperson, estimator, or HVAC project manager is highly desirable.
EPA Section 608 certification is strongly preferred. Additional HVAC certifications, manufacturer training, sales experience, and supervisory or project-management experience are a plus.
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
The Opportunity
This position is particularly well suited for an experienced HVAC service technician, field supervisor, comfort advisor, salesperson, or project manager who feels they have reached a ceiling in their current position and is ready for the next step.
Our HVAC division is growing, which means the person joining us now will have the opportunity to help shape how the department operates.
Initially, expect to be hands-on in the field—running service calls, diagnosing systems, working with homeowners, identifying opportunities, and helping coordinate installations.
As HVAC volume increases and additional technicians and installers are added, our goal is for the right person to transition toward greater responsibility in sales, estimating, project management, team leadership, and overall HVAC division operations.
We are looking for someone who sees that as an opportunity and wants to grow with us.
