Full Job Description

The Family Ministry Director will lead a dynamic, faith-based children’s ministry by nurturing spiritual growth and partnering with families to support each child’s faith journey at home and in church.

HOURS: 12-15 hours/week, Sunday mornings required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The responsibilities of the Director of Community Life & Spiritual Formation include, but are not limited to:

Develop and oversee engaging, age-appropriate ministry experiences for children.
Recruit, train, and lead a diverse team of gifted volunteers.
Create opportunities and provide resources to support family faith development beyond Sundays.
Ensure a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment aligned with the church’s mission.
Collaborate with youth leaders to foster meaningful connections between children and teens.
Build strong, faith-forming relationships with children and their families.
Partner with community leaders to reach new families and build impactful connections.
Implement curriculum consistent with Wesleyan technology and age-level needs.
Organize and oversee children and youth participation in summer camps (e.g., United and Heartland), including promotion, registration, coordination with families, and logistical planning.
Lead the development and execution of family ministry outreach events (e.g., PJs and Pancakes, seasonal socials), designed to foster community connection and spiritual engagement beyond Sunday programming.
Support the youth ministry (middle and high school) by scheduling, preparing resources, and providing administrative assistance as needed.
Manage ministry budget and resources in coordination with the Finance Team.
Lead complice with Safe Gatherings policies to protect children and vulnerable adults.

QUALIFICATIONS

To fulfill the expectations of the role, the Family Ministry Director should demonstrate the following:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Proven experience in child development and education
Deep commitment to Christian growth, meaningful relationships, authentic faith, and excellence.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

Strong spiritual maturity and commitment to Waypoint’s values
Follower of Jesus Christ with a heart for community and the next generation
Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral, written, and listening), and organizational skills
Ability to work well with young children and their parents
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to identify, recruit, equip, and lead volunteers toward the church’s mission
Experience or willingness to learn supervisory and leadership skills
Strong ethical leadership and active listening abilities
Ability to anticipate needs, solve problems, and adapt to changing circumstances
Committed to cultural sensitivity, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Coachable, with a desire for lifelong learning and spiritual growth
Attend meetings as required
Maintain confidentiality, particularly in matters of spiritual care
Clear vision and direct communication
