The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department is actively hiring Corrections Officers and offering an expedited, walk-in hiring process.
No correctional experience is required. We provide paid, on-the-job training and are seeking dependable, level-headed individuals who can communicate professionally, remain calm under pressure, and work effectively as part of a team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Maintain safety, security, and order within the facility
- Supervise inmate activity, behavior, and movement
- Conduct security checks, inspections, and inmate counts
- Enforce facility rules and established procedures
- Respond to emergencies and security incidents
- Use communication and de-escalation skills
- Complete reports and maintain accurate documentation
- Work closely with officers, supervisors, medical staff, and other law enforcement personnel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to successfully complete a background investigation
- Ability to successfully complete drug screening and a polygraph examination
- No felony convictions
- Availability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays
Shift assignments are based on current staffing and operational needs.
