Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are a new bakery in the Gurnee area seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Pastry Assistant to support our pastry team in creating high-quality baked goods and desserts. The ideal candidate is passionate about baking, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in producing beautiful, consistent products while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, cakes, cookies, breads, and other desserts.
Measure, mix, portion, and prepare ingredients according to recipes.
Help decorate cakes, pastries, and desserts as directed.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and workstation.
Wash, sanitize, and properly store kitchen equipment and utensils.
Label, rotate, and store ingredients following food safety guidelines.
Monitor inventory and notify supervisors when supplies need replenishing.
Package and prepare products for display or customer pickup.
Follow production schedules to ensure timely completion of orders.
Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the bakery team.

Qualifications

Previous bakery, pastry, or food service experience.
Basic knowledge of baking techniques and kitchen equipment.
Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.
Willingness to learn and grow within the bakery.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
Work in a warm kitchen environment.

Schedule

Part-time or full-time opportunities available.
Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
